Assuming your company offered full tution reimbursement and you had some free time on hand, Would obtaining multiple masters degrees be a detriment to your career/resume?

I ask because I've heard it might show potential employers that you are indecisive amongst other things.

Possibly could be harmful for the reason you stated. On top of that, work experience is more valuable than school experience.

On the other hand, let’s say you have an MS in finance and later did MBA. That doesn’t necessarily show that you’re indecisive, since MSF would be a specialist degree and MBA is generalist, both within a business context. MBA is like a check box to come in at a higher level or be promoted. So in a case like that, I don’t think it would be harmful.

That is a good personal example with the interview, thank you for providing it. Did you ever take the interviewer up on his offer for career advice and network introductions?

"Comparison is the thief of joy", I really like that quote. Ironically, I might just steal it, if you don't mind. It sounds like you are pretty upbeat person and you may a good choice going for your MS. How did you go about networking with alumni and in general? Do you have a specific process you go through or general email that you send? I feel there is a difference between having a conversation with an alumni and building a strong enough connection to get a referral.

I will have to keep both of those options in mind. Did you pursue your MS at the same college that you got your undergrad from? Or did you choose a different one?

No it would not be a detriment. There's a lot of myths, half-truths, and oversimplifications out there about how a particular bullet point on your resume will impact your career. This could be anything from the scenario you mention; it could be having [or not having] a certain tenure in a particular group of firms on a resume; it could be anything.

In an interview, you get to explain yourself and ask questions--and where you get to evaluate a prospective employer. The employer uses that interview to evaluate you as well. If a prospective employer wouldn't interview you based on this fact, you wouldn't want to work for them anyways.

It would be reasonable for a prospective employer to ask about the reason for having multiple degrees, but you could very easily explain those reasons in an interview. Your not going to have an eternal "I" branded to your professional identity because of the "Indecision" one might infer from your showing multiple degrees on your resume.

I'd be careful how you process all the things you have "heard" when it comes to issues like this, but you are smart to ask about them. These kinds of myths fly around pretty frequently out there and you have learn how to filter them.

Director 1, I really appreciate your indepth answer to my question. I didn't expect to get such an extensive reply.

You are right when it comes to half truths, oversimplification, myths, etc. I feel that once I get some more knowledge and dirt under by nails, I will more easily be able to tell which are which, but at the moment I worry that I will make a mistake in my early career that could end up messing me up in the future or preventing me from achieving my goals.

I've heard of the general concept of interviewing the company at the same time they are interviewing you and just because they may want you doesn't mean you want them. I'm early in both my career and my education and I have had a couple chances to do exactly that. However, I didn't think about the interviews I didn't get and how just because I didn't get them doesn't mean that they are above the one(s) I did.

So don't get a degree to have a degree, if I can't explain why when I am inevitably asked by an interviewer then It's extremely likely that I shouldn't have gotten that degree? I don't have much perspective in life, I'm at the point where I'm trying to make a basic plan and it seems so far off in comparison to where I am now. For this reason, sometimes it's hard to see how certain decisions or mistakes that seem overwhelming now are just quick pit stops on the highway of life.

Thank you for the compliment, how would you suggest I go about differentiating fact from fiction in this case? How do I go about filtering out the bad advice? How did you?

Anyone here familiar with the hiring process of KPMG consulting in Van? Had a partner interview on Nov 21, thought the feedback was positive but haven't heard back yet (no rejection/offer). Is it something normal or the interview just didn't go as well as I thought?

It's an experienced hire for an SC role. I saw the posting is still open atm, and my guess is that the recruiting team is comparing candidates since competition is higher due to recent layoffs.

Thanks in advance!

Hi fellow designers, I was offered a UX designer role at Egencia in Paris, but it’s been 2 months since they made the offer by phone and I haven’t received the contract. I was told they were switching internal processes, then they were waiting for approval from upper management to make these offers official, and now the HR is working on it after getting the green light. Is it normal for this part of the hiring process to take so long? Or should I be worried?

My kids don't understand/ like it AT ALL and when they get home from school they just want daddy and feel like I'm ignoring them. What do I do??
