I really like the work/life balance and its really what's kept me here. I can work whenever I want and take time off pretty much whenever as well. It's as cushy as a govt job.

What’s your current role

You could. Look elsewhere, you might find something you love and you can certainly bring in an offer from outside and see what they can do to match because you love your job. They probably know you can get a job anywhere else, but it's worth reminding them.

Oh man, first, sorry for your losses. If you've had great performance the last year, talk to your manager and see if you can get a read, and yeah not a bad idea to keep looking anyway. Always be a little prepared for the worst.

Hi there. Earlier this year I laid out a business case for why I should get a raise & I asked for a $20-25k annual raise. I got $15k. I found out another person also asked for a raise around the same time. He didn’t give a business case, he just asked;he got the full amount he asked for ($70k). He is more senior than me, has been there longer, & we are not in the same function. However, something is just not sitting right with me about this situation. Any thoughts? Am I just over-analyzing?

I’m up for promotion this month. I will be in charging jobs this busy season. What do you all use to stay organized? As a staff I was using just a regular planner. Now I’m wondering if a project planner would be better. I use the goodnotes app for a planner currently. I’d prefer keeping it digital so I have it on my phone if I forget my iPad.

Do you feel the bar for promotion to senior levels is radically different for women at your company than for men? Like men are promoted on potential or for one notable achievement/contribution but women have to actually achieve everything at the next level BEFORE they get the title?

I need some advice- how do I ask for a pay raise? I recently joined Deloitte (Toronto) as a consultant 5 months ago and I make 65k. Initially I thought this would be great but I’m struggling to keep up with my expenses (I live by myself, international student trying to support my little brother through school as well) I feel like I very recently joined & I haven’t done much notable work. I’m afraid to ask!

Been working remote since the beginning of the pandemic. Back in the office in January and trying to finalize childcare. Recruiters connecting with me for new job opportunities. Scared to even consider a shift out of my current company where I may have some flexibility bc I've been there for so long, but they're dragging their feet with giving me a well deserved raise. So unsure what to do. Shift now, or cont to negotiate $ at current job or hit the road and let the childcare figure itself out.

I just had my first annual performance review meeting with my manager this past Friday. She had nothing but good things to say about my work, effort etc. thus far. After that she indicated a raise of a little less than 3%. Is this something I can counter? Should companies be giving raises that are at least at the percentage of the inflation rate (Being ~ 6% this year)? I appreciate any feedback!

I work in a 7-attorney firm with a national presence. Partly because I’m only a few months in, I work a roughly 8-6 day. I’m also new to billing and often find myself working all day and billing just 4 hours. Whenever I bring this up to the partner, he says it’s good we’re not over billing our client. We don’t have minimum billable hours so it doesn’t matter much for the firm’s sake but I think I’m missing out on learning the important skill of billing my time. Has anyone ever experienced this?
