At McKinsey fish, how much can you actually steer your career in terms of topic / industry focus as a new joiner? Is it luck or can you say I want to do industry X and you will get staffed there? How about personal values and veto against defense projects or tobacco and that sort of thing?

That's what expert track is for

If you are completely against something for personal reason you will not get staffed on it

Good people coaches and work that’s appropriate for a new joiner are the most important things for your first 1-3 studies. Professional Development (aka our staffing leaders) will try to also match your interests, but not guaranteed. The priority is setting you up to successfully learn the ropes. Once you’ve started to get experience, you have a lot more control.

You can always decline things where you have a concern (tobacco, etc).

Thanks folks!!

Any mid-sized or big firm hiring T14 LLM graduates with foreign (Chinese) law degree? Job searching has been really challenging. Looking for some advice, planning to buy a house and would like to get a big house with a big yard in a good school district. Currently me and my wife make ~350k a year in NJ. Our budget doesn’t allow for the size/amenities of the house we want in the neighborhood we’re looking to buy. An option could be to wait a couple of years and start the search again when we have more savings. But that means renting till then. Few factors to consider:
1. No student loans 2. We want to start a family.

Hi, it’s me again. This day is too funny. 🤣

At the mall. Just bought a hair iron, off a hair stylist who told me that before I leave… to call him so I can sit on his face.

He threw in a free hair mask and hair serum. Both full size. 😅

What’s a good day rate for a mid-senior level strategist?

I’m looking for a mentor in the tech / start up industry at the moment. I’ve been in HR for around 2-3 years and currently working in fintech for 8 months. I love the tech industry and I love how fast paced everything is. I started my career working alongside a manager that wasn’t always present and now working in HR alone. I’ve never really known if what I’m doing is right,I’d really appreciate being able to lean on and be mentored by someone who is a HR leader in the same kind of environment.

Assuming no morning meetings or calls, what time do you get into the office when you go into the office? Is 1030am still acceptable?

Our superintendent decided we go remote next week because our Covid cases are extremely high within our district… especially the high schools where I happen to work. It is supposed to be for one week— Monday being a holiday—but if the cases don’t go down it could be longer. Here we go again!
Anyone else out there in other districts have this problem?
