What I’ve been told is that every firm / team has a different relationship with the value creation / portfolio ops team. Some are treated as nearly equal partners (on IC); others are just in-house consultants (not on IC)
Yeah, they are called “Ops team” for a reason
At our firm the ops team sits in and often presents at IC. They own the value creation portion of the underwriting. But we are an ops focus firm which isn’t always the norm.
which firm?
Yes
Op are you in ops? Why would an ops team sit in on IC?

Yes, I anecdotally have a few other friends in Ops at other firms who do sit in on IC, i know Silver Lake does for sure. Knowing the investment thesis and context of the deals directly informs the work we do. Guess these firms are the exception.

Depends on the firm. This should be discussed as part of interview and on-boarding process to make sure it makes sense for you
It always blows my mind that people in PE constantly WANT to be in more meetings. Very different mindset than being in industry.
Every once in a while I (VP level Ops) person will join an IC or coinvestor call and literally not once has it felt like a valuable use of time
I don’t contribute much to the conversation in front of IC, I don’t have decision making rights, and generally the information put in front of them is either purely financial or - if operational - so high-level so as to be useless for learning purposes at this point in my career.
I might fee different if I was a 25 year old ASC whose only other job was IB but that isn’t the case for me
I was a part of IC as ops at a smaller boutique. That being said, our deals team was more tightly tied to Dd, sourcing, and valuations. It was my responsibility to put together an investment thesis and deliver on value generation

Ops team presents the deal with the team. IC decision makers only super senior partners / founders
Subject Expert
Yeah learning about the deal thesis seems super interesting, no?
You don’t need IC for that. Where relevant - I’m either involved in diligence or do a readout with the team that worked on diligence

Deals >>>>> Ops

Lmao what do you mean? This post has nothing to do with comparing deals vs ops team man. Its fine to have that opinion fair enough but dont see what it has to do with my question?? Happy thanksgiving btw 😂
