At my old firm, I would wear my faux leather spanx leggings with heels/booties and a nice top/blazer that covered my butt. Since covid, we dressed more casually. I’m now at a new firm. Are these leggings generally acceptable to wear in office?

My office is business casual. I've seen partners in everything from skirt suits to a hoodie and jeans. I wear similar faux leather leggings but I also have purple hair so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pink/green/blue hair back in the day 🤘🎸

Does your office have a written dress code? The last two firms I’ve worked at have explicitly said no leather and no leggings.

like

This is in the office dress code at my firm as well.

Leggings, no matter the fabric, wouldn’t fly in my firm’s office.

I have been wearing leggings, ballerinas and a loose shirt for years - with dress, blazer, tights and heels in the wardrobe if a client pops in that I do not know that well.

This would not be OK at my firm but my firm is super uptight. If purple hair goes I would think leggings go too :)

I would avoid for client-facing interactions

I would avoid the leggings. I have heard people at my firm talk about clerks/paralegals who have worn them to the office before, and we are in a relatively casual environment. I do think a nice straight cut pair of leather/pleather trousers is suitable for work, especially on Fridays, so perhaps that would be a happy medium

Really depends on office—I’ve worn mine a couple times at my current office, but my two partners wear jeans and tennis shoes most days and seem like they could care less. I would’ve never work leggings at my old office—was always slacks, skirt, or dress.
