At our company we have to apply for job reqs, same as external candidates. I’ve been at my company for 5 years and am thinking of applying to the manager opening on my team and also a lateral position on a brand new team with a lot of visibility. Im having trouble choosing if I had to pick one. If I apply to both I feel like if one hiring manager knew I was also interviewing for the other position there could be potential bias against me. Is this a possibility? or am I being paranoid.

I think it's attractive to be considered for two different roles, but if you keep pursuing both let each person know that there is a conversation about another team/role, though you're more interested in this one...

I would try to figure out what you're more interested in, in general. If you really like your team, moving to a manager position will be really good for your experience, movement forward, res, and comp. But if you feel like you need something really new, and you're feeling trapped on your team - manager or no - then the other one could be good. The thing is, once you get a manager title, you can take that laterally, and you don't need it long to really hold weight. And lean into the one you like more, but don't cut the other off completely. Also remember - they're going to find out about each other once you get a job with either...and that's already a done deal.

I currently work in SaaS software implementation and really want to break into product management. I am finding it hard to get interviews. I feel that I have a ton of transferable skills - agile delivery, customer insights, working with ui/ux, engineering, marketing, business, IT to get something shipped and more. Anyone willing to help me out? Review my resume?

If a job posting specifies certain education requirements that you don't have, is it still worth applying or will you be automatically skipped over? I truly believe I have the experience to make the degree irrelevant, but if the system will just skip over me, I don't want to waste my time on these.

It’s been really hard to keep my head up after what feels like endless rejection. Received a no today about position I really wanted. The interviews felt so genuine and I was even told I’d be a good fit. Ultimately it just seems that my experience isn’t translating, which really sucks when you feel stuck in your current role and want to make a transition. I’m so eager to keep learning. Would love to connect with any brand/account directors to get some advice.

I'm hiring and I've just learned that my HR department is screening candidates by asking them about very specific functions and frameworks.

"Can you describe your experience using Element#remove()?"

"Can you describe your experience migrating from X framework to Y framework?"

We don't use Y framework and have no plans to use Y framework in the foreseeable future. I also don't expect candidates to have all functions memorized. How on Earth did they find out about Y framework!? 🙄🫣
