Currently in my early 20s and it’s always been a dream of mine to be a homeowner. I just don’t know when I’ll be able to afford the house I want (~$400-500k). Net worth is currently ~$80k and salary is $80k. I’m scared of the current market because it’s constantly rising so I’m feeling restless that I’ll never be able to get a house.
You can also consider purchasing something that is less expensive. Buying property when you can will set you up for your dream home in the future. Unless you’re living at home, you’re paying rent that could help build equity in a home. You could also consider going in with a good friend or having a parent co-sign/help (if that’s an option). When I was 24 I couldn’t get the $250-300K home I wanted. The bank would only approve me for $99K. I opted out and I could have really set myself up some 9 years ago….

31, make 135k, most of the homes near where I live are def typically 5-7x my salary. Even if I move to the South, still will be 2-3x my salary at minimum, but that’s going to be my goal for the year.
Bought a condo at 27! In a high cost of living city - bought just outside city center. Net worth of around 200k at the time of purchase I put in 20% downpayment The condo was 3.5 times my salary at time of purchase, but now it's 2.7 times my salary.

30. I was making $120k. Townhouse was $325k. Now mid 30’s and bought my second and kept the first. There is absolutely no hurry in your early 20’s to buy a house. I moved around a lot in my 20s and had no interest in buying a house.
26, 4.8x HHI at the time. Now it’s 3x (2 yrs later)
31, I’m not going to do this math but it was $535K and we did ~18% down
26 2x my and my husband’s joint salaries at the time
