Are there any recruiters from IBM who have information on their apprenticeship program (Soft Eng)? I have applied and my application is under review. How much knowledge/skill set does one actually need to get into the new collar program? From what I have gathered online, it's kind of a mixed bag and can take a long time to onboard someone. I am self taught, know the basics of two languages and have some small projects to show. Just wondering if there is anyone that has been through this process.

Just did! (I’m 50).
It depends on my financial situation and when I'll have enough saved for retirement and my child's college. Maybe 50?
To me, 50 sounds really young to retire, but it also sounds amazing. I would definitely want to do another job for a while after "retiring", but something more aligned to my values or my own thing.
The thought of working in consulting for 7 more years is a little daunting though. Right now I'm just trying to put one foot in front of the other ... not enjoying work. But I am worried any career switch will upend my financial picture. I have a horrible terror of ending up penniless and right now am just focused on saving as much money as I can.
Relatable.

Me too.
41 now, wife retires from the military in 5 years and oldest is off to college at the same time. Depends on likely college choices but probably 46 is the target. Wife and I want to go teach high school and take summers off.
44 in October and totally agree with @Manager 1 that 50-55 is the best age. I'll wait for my kid in 9th grade to finish college, and I want to vest in my pension before leaving. That therefore gives me 9 years to go. Countdown to 53!
I am also 2 years into my 3.5 years Doctoral degree program because I plan to teach consulting at a university when I am all done with consulting (it has been over 16 years....oh boy!)
50
Between 45 and 50
if I'm still in this gig I'll start a transition at fifty. fewer days, less hassle, more WFH and just slide from there
When both kids are finished with their undergrad degrees.
Probably 65, I'm 45. Depends how much "fuck you money" I have in the back at that point.
Just did.. am 42. Never been happier . Less stress and better work life balance with the same money. Realizing what I have been missing the last 18 years , being on the road and away from family .
I actually don’t plan on quitting. My hope is to shift into more writing, teaching, developing content over time, but I’m not a retirement person. But I’m saving as if I am, because you never know what live will throw at you. I’m saving as if I’ll retire at 65.
62-65 (currently 55)
I retired at 64
65. 48 now with 2 young kids.
42 about to have my first child.
will keep going until the firm's says otherwise. trying to rack as many points for future vacations.
I’d say 63. I’m 48 currently.
At 50.

Soon I feel, I’m 40, loving Slalom, kinda done with consulting...
