At what age should you expect to break 200k TC?

I doubled my TC within the first year of a new job. ( initial salary increase + bonuses that were determined on my first annual review) . I was at my previous company for 5 years and started right out of college. Now I want to start job hopping, but personally I don’t like to screw over or leave people hanging. My internal clock says at least 3 years at a job, long enough to see the real company value and also reasonable time to get 1 or 2 promotions/ see how much they stick to their word about promotions. What do you guys think about job hopping to get the warranted Salary increase if your current place won’t do it? Do we find that’s really the only way to get a drastic increase? Being younger it seems the only way to get it is leave or else they would be paying me more than people twice my age. Even tho I know I can provide more value than those people. Also I am 28 , making 130 but the eye is on the 200k prize 🤩

Stayed at my first job for 4 years but my second one I didn’t last 2, got my promo a dipped but I was miserable there doing the work I was doing and am so much happier now enjoying my work so much more and making more than double than I was as a consultant. End of the day if the job isn’t enjoyful for you, no point of sticking it out for the people. You have to do what’s best for you especially when you work for major corporations. My first 2 jobs were for companies with over 200k employees globally, they can easily replace us, nothing to feel bad about Left PWC for tech - 250k 27 YO

If you break $200k at any age you’re doing pretty freaking great 👍🏼 😊

Nice

200K puts you in the 96th percentile in the US. Just adding some perspective.

4 more to go

I am 53… so take that for what you will… and I did a medical degree and residency first. But i just find our collective pursuit of money such a disappointment. I can honestly say it wasn’t and has never been my ‘goal’… you have to enjoy the process and not the financial results. I do feel like we’ve lost our way a bit because important dignified roles are no longer valued and terrible, purposeless things (influencers, etc) are viewed by too many as desirable. I get it, I’m old… but I do hope for a better and more purposeful future for my kids who are college freshmen and below.

likeupliftingsmarthelpfulfunny

P1, you're not old! truth.. everyone chasing the $$ and not enjoying what they do.

I mean this assumes you consider $200k a milestone worth tracking against…..seems like spare change to those of us with an actual future

@EY-P3 - just to clarify, the difference between and entrepreneur and a business owner is the willingness to take big risks. There are lots of entrepreneurs who would be thrilled with a $200k annual return. Mark Cuban is an entrepreneur; all entrepreneurs are not as successful as Mark Cuban.

I’m an immigrant who had to slave away making $95k until I got my green card at 33. Broke $200k at 35. Hoping my kids would break the $200k equivalent in their 20s given that they don’t have to go through what I had to go through.

likeupliftingfunny

“Slave away” making 95k …. That’s more than most immigrants make in this country. Chill with the hyperboles

Anyone working for or have insight into Viking Global? What’s the culture like, work/life balance, etc. I’m currently in a smaller shop where I have lots of autonomy, flexibility and are well compensated (200k base plus bonus/deal participation). I’m lacking mentorships and fear getting too comfortable and for the learning curve to stagnate. The recruiter is telling me 400-500k total comp, but the position would be a steps down in terms of title/autonomy, and far less front facing. Any advice?

I am looking for a new job at the end of a long career. I have excellent experience in IP and Supply Chain Management. I've been fortunate to be in a high-paying position in the Los Angeles area and I rarely see comparable positions posted. The comparable positions at my company are filled by one of the big executive search firms. Any recommendations for finding the rare executive-level legal positions or for landing on the radar of the big executive search firms would be much appreciated!

I’m curious of everyone’s views on job hopping. I’m on my 3rd job and have ~3 years of sales experience. Each job change has been an increase in comp and has shown clear career progression. At this point I’m working for a well known public company in SaaS, in their SMB segment, which has been great. But I’ve been approached by a smaller startup offering to double my base salary, 2.25x my OTE, and equity for an enterprise rep position. This is very enticing, but would I look like a job hopper?
