Amex people thoughts on this offer, as I have recently(4 months back) joined a startup with Base(33) and CTC(35.5) but not enjoying the work here. Amex brand tag and culture is good.
Hence, considering the offer, does this offer look good or is there any scope of improvement? Amex American Express

I'm not sure income was the key figure for me. A few things happened;
I had a job w great WLB balance. Frustrating clients but 8 hrs sleep every night and time for nice long workouts on the trails or in the gym. (I got very accustomed to that lifestyle)
Our net worth got to a point that the retire figure was maybe 5 years away.
We could afford life list vacations and season tickets.
And perhaps most of all; we were in our 40's.
Whatever the cause, at this point I'm more interested in roles that let me shape a transition away from long hours and stress. If I can find that kind of work I might work a little bit longer.

Idk. 150k? What do you need more than 250k for? Why would 7 years of poor WLB in your younger years be worth shaving off 2 years until retirement when you’re older? I realize this is FIRE and we all want to RE but you might also die tomorrow. Enjoy your time.
Can I ask what kind of work you’re in, that offers a $250k salary with WLB? Thanks.
I got a work related injury last year and now WLB is my top priority. So for me, income isn’t the relevant benchmark, it’s just that my values have changed over time
I’d definitely take the WLB with slightly lower pay.

I’m in a similar position (although much farther away from retiring).
33 and 6 months ago started a job with good balance and total comp of $250k all in cash. Have pretty much decided I don’t need anymore (although my spouse makes another $150k and I likely will get a promotion and associated 20-30% bump sometime in the next few years).
Wonderful decision to have before you. I would probably go with the option that allows me to retire the earliest. However, you are only 31 ....if you retire at 38 or 40 that is incredibly young, so you can't go wrong no matter what you decide to do. Either option allows you to retire very early, you will still have your youth and the rest of your life to relax and enjoy life. Just be careful that the most stressful of the two jobs don't case you to burn out before reaching your goals.
You're going to stop living for yourself and dedicate 90% of your time to work so you can retire 2 years earlier? Don't do it. Sounds like you'll burn out and not make it anyways. If you're super curious take the job for the challenge and then exit back if you don't like it.
2 year difference? Wlb
Coach
I vote WLB.
Maybe a middle path would be to find ways to crank up savings such that you could still RE in 8
Go with the WLB. Two years is not a significant swing and it's worth being able to enjoy life more during your working years
OP how old are you?
