At what point do you tell your manager you are pregnant? Starting my 1st trimester and I’m struggling

Congrats!
Also it really depends on you and how comfortable you are with your manager and sharing the news. People tend to wait till the 12 week mark since the chance of miscarriage decreases significantly after that. I didn’t want to deal with telling people about a miscarriage if it happened. Other school of thinking is that the first trimester is draining, probably the most tired I was during the entire pregnancy. So if your manager has gone through it, they will likely be more understanding.

I think that’s very important! The grief of a miscarriage is sometimes not afforded the weight it carries. Thanks for the advice xx

Congrats! I told my counselor and one other manager around 9 weeks because my morning sickness was so bad (like ER bad at one point) and wanted at least someone to know what was going on and that I was really struggling to keep up

likehelpful

Might do that too ! Thanks

I told them around 10 weeks because I was sick all the time and could not attend some meetings and needed to take frequent breaks. Otherwise, I would have waited until second trimester. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with and congtats!

like

Thanks lovely! Yeah I might end up having to say it earlier than planned

If you are getting sick a lot, don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about getting on medicine

like

My first pregnancy I told everyone at around 23-24 weeks. This pregnancy I’m planning to tell around the same time.
24 weeks usually marks the viability point, so for me personally it makes a good time to let my teams know.
However, as others already pointed out, chances of miscarriage go down drastically after 12-13 weeks, so I see a lot of people announcing around then.

Any supporting moms you know at your company, or even your niche, who can give you advice? If you need less on your plate, you may want to talk to your manager

I have different managers mostly males but i should be able to get a few females to speak to xx

I told my counselor semi early because I was sick all the time, but then told the partners and my teams at around 12 weeks. I did the same with both kids. Unfortunately I was sick for all months of both my pregnancies so I did have to get HR involved pretty early so they understood why I was coming in late and having to take more break during the days. Hope that helps!

Helps a lot thank you xx

Congrats! Me too! Was wondering this same thing

Congratulations to you too xx

Not until 2nd trimester, at least

Looking to leave but trying to conceive ( 1 year now and having fertility issue). I am sticking around cause the flexibility is great with me need to see RE and get blood draw. But also concerned I'm just going to end up not leaving if I never get pregnant :( Upcoming year will be a new client for me and I know it'll bring stress. However a new role in industry might not be as easy either and I'll need to prove myself, where as currently I'm already regarded as a high performer and gained trust.

NYC Freelancers! My Medicaid is ending soon and I need to start making health insurance decisions (lame). My current agency is offering me FT and I’m pretty terrified as I feel like I’m going to sell away my freedom. Their health insurance is pretty good and allows me to put my partner on it. I’m trying to also rationalize paying for my own in NYC but it’s so expensive ($500+/mo). I go to the doctor fairly often. Single NYC freelancers (no kids), what do you pay monthly or yearly? Worth it?

If you work at a small agency in NYC, could you tell me what your monthly health insurance premiums are for families? I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible. Would love to know if we're competitive or not and if not, share that info with our HR and bosses.

Asked for a LOA because I just got bad medical news and want time to process & find surgeons (I have to decide between staying in constant pain or being able to have kids one day). HR said it’s not a valid reason & I’ll lose my insurance at the end of the month if I take leave. They want me to use my 5 days of sick time & return to work after. I have an underlying autoimmune issue & need to save my sick days in case of a flare up. Ranting, but a reminder that companies don’t care about anyone

Just wanted to share this with people who would understand. Had 4 IEP meetings last week. When the case manager asked one mother if she had any concerns she said her only concern was that her kindergarten son with autism loved me so much she was afraid of him being promoted and being out of my room. I told her not to worry, in our program I will have him for 2 more years. Boy that made me feel good.

Question for the Biglaw Bowl: How common is it to take a pay cut when being promoted from associate to income partner? I had heard about this happening at some lower ranked V100 firms. But now that I’m more senior and my friends are making partner, it sounds like it’s a lot more common than I thought and happens at firms where I wouldn’t expect it. Does anyone here have any insight into this? How common is it, how much of a pay cut, and how long until your pay catches up to associate pay?

Seeking advice on what to do career wise.

I’m still in my first year at Deloitte as a campus-hire.
