At what point does Salesforce become like Oracle or MSFT where the size and breadth of the platform leads to excessive technical debt?

Hey tech folks. I'm mentoring a software engineer graduate and wanted your opinion. I had him write out his 5 year goals to me and it's about finding his niche and specializing in 5 years. Would you say that's too early to think about specializing? My thoughts are to say it's OK if you find your passion and want to specialize, but it's also OK to generalize and pick up more skills and experience in different aspects of tech.

To folks who joined TCS recently or about to join in 2 week,

I have 2 months notice period, 35 days over but still my BGC status is "BGC Scheduled", I have already denied counter offer...still doesn't want to fall in a situation where I have left current organization and after joining TCS there is some issue with BGC. Need inputs on
1) How can we know our BGC Status before DOJ to be on safer side?
2) Does someone experienced BGC status change in iBegin portal before DOJ?

I have 2+ years experience with Salesforce, before Salesforce I was a full-stack dev with some DevsOps experience. I worked for Finance Services and Oil & Gas companies. Right now, I wanted to make a switch to Aviation, Aerospace or Defense company. I’m in Texas, specifically Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
