Need help from Amazon 🐠 Anyone interviewed for Amazon L5 BIE in GSF supply chain team? The JD said basic qualifications include data modeling, ETL, data warehousing and optimization. Any idea or experience how they will test these topics? Asking about related experience? Or show some data and ask how you will deal with that? Or like a case study, given a senario and ask how you think in order to tackle problem? Need advice/idea/experience urgently. Thanks in advance.Amazon @BIE

If you are passionate about the subject of your degree, I would also recommend finishing it. It can open doors into specializing in a career path of your interest, like theory, AI, etc. Also, 1 year isn’t a lot of time. Being in back in school and academic can be fun too!
Do it! Only 1 year to go. Then go to grad school and specialize in something you’re really interested in. Then you can work with that specialization on some cool problems!
The short answer is finish the degree.
Coincidentally, SpaceX asks all sorts of SAT, ACT, GPA scores on its job app. Many top school candidates work at SpaceX and Tesla. Elon might not value a degree, his companies sure do.
Not worth the debt IMHO. I have an A.S. and over 10yrs experience. No one cares about my degree, they care about my work product.
If cost is a really big factor - totally understand. I had my schooling in the UK so I forget how expensive it is
It's a tough call but I'd lean more towards saying finish it. I interview a lot of software engineers and, while I don't think I care about the degrees mentioned on the resume, I always check them so I'd bet that is because of some subconscious bias valuing them. That being said, I haven't found a correlation between degrees and people I want on my team.
Where are you planning to go?
I speak with tech leaders and academic executives in Higher Ed everyday- who tell me they are being heavily disrupted by covid and the widening digital divide. Most institutions are struggling to keep pace with new + emerging tech, and educators struggle to design courses that actually prepare students for industry, because of this most graduates end up having to take boot camps and refresher courses for additional training to gain the applied skills needed in their perspective roles. . .
Advances in technology have made lifelong learning an absolutely necessity.
And the problem with just checking the box is this: candidates with college degrees present a modest advantage over other applicants. BUT they are typically more expensive to hire, and if they lack the technical + interpersonal skills needed for the job costs associated with hiring/ onboarding can outweigh the value of their degree. Because of this most employers (in tech at least) look to validate skills/ proficiencies above degrees.
SO ... if you are going to go back to check the box as you claim- make sure you’re enrolled in a competitive program that actually strengthens your technical skill acumen. There are some really great colleges offering micro-credentials/ nano degrees with favorable pricing... just have to do a little research.
