I mean age is not of materiality here I think.
@Mck1 why are there so many folks who say ageism exists in Tech then?
Ageism definitely exists. Most (but not all) can be explained away by older people not learning the newest tech, but there’s still de facto ageism relating to working norms, such as older people preferring meetings over IMs or not using slack <— this gets swept away as “cultural fit” but a lot of it is just ageism
But I don’t think it’s relevant in your hypothetical. Pay cut and tech knowledge are probably more relevant

It’s not really age, it’s more level in consulting. At principal/associate partner you’d likely have to take a level and/or paycut to get into PM. Very unlikely to come in as a people manager in product.
At PL levels you can still switch and get same pay or even pay bump into a mid-level PM role L5 google or high L6 low L7 for Amazon if you can put in the work and probably have some relevant background. It’s a bit of a stretch but doable.
Age doesn’t matter. In fact, right now is the best time to switch to PM. I made the switch.
Would you refer me ? What’s the TC ?

The issue tends to be gaps in qualification, experience and pay expectations, or so I think. The easiest transitions to PM I have seen are people who had a CS degree and/or software engineering experience, which is rare among consultants.
What's the appeal to switch to PM? Money?
