77K Virginia Found place in Alexandria (city) I don’t think 77k enough for dmv area as a single person who didn’t want roommates It’s still kinda tight I think I would need 100k to live comfortably
Honestly, $80K base in Chicago. I’m at 120 now but haven’t changed my spending habits too much, so I’ve noticed a ton of savings. Definitely helps when you stay disciplined and don’t decide to spend more as your comp grows. Being single helps lol but you get what I mean
I have a kid (single dad) and mine was 96k Chicago .
$115k base in Washington DC

Honestly, 77k in Washington DC. I budgeted well, and lived outside the city but directly next to a subway line. $ is relative - the more I make, the more I spend.
DC, about $100K in today’s dollars.

Agreed. EY has treated me very well and was the only company that was willing to give me a shot, so I am very grateful.

145k NJ 2020 but I already feel it’s quite not enough- 180k would have been ideal!
55k out of college 10k years ago. Boston area. I feel proud I was able to do that on such a salary after seeing these responses. Wow!
Hahaha oops! 10* you made me laugh today and I needed that!
150K in the bay area. With a little less could also make it.
140k Denver
Well it depends on what financially comfortable means, I was of course able to live here on much less but with that salary I could pay my mortgage and do what I wanted while still saving. Bought a nice place in the city so it’s pretty pricey here in genera
65k in Houston. Wasn’t saving as much as I could’ve but certainly wasn’t hurting financially.
$80k in DC proper is sustainable at the moment, but definitely feel that I could save more in the rent department :’)
$8k, Syracuse, NY, 30 years ago. Was single parent too.
I have many questions lol

Thanks everyone for the responses. Currently @ $112k in Houston but the thought of living alone (I.e., the expense) makes me want to vomit.

Houston is relatively affordable. However, housing prices have definitely seen an increase (probably similar in every other market). I just prefer to spend less than or equal to 25% of my take home pay on housing.
