I think I have this curse too 😅

I got a bump from 70 to 105 when I changed agencies (and titles) and it was a difference-maker from "I can pay my bills and save a tiny bit" to "ok I have enough money for most if not all of the things I want, plus saving". NYC.

Isn't it kind of the inverse in corporate America? It seems the higher up a person is, the more glued to their job they tend to be

like

Going from $64k to $80k (this was 2017) made a big difference in my quality of life and ability to get ahead.

like

92k (2011) was when I stopped feeling like I needed to make more money to enjoy a good long term standard of living. Now I make over 300 but I’m still semi-chasing raises to shorten my time until retirement. I wouldn’t say I’m coasting but I’m also not urgently hustling.

like

$130k (SF numbers, so more like $110 east coast)

Ummm. Was at $210 and I hated my life. Went back down to go back up and I still feel on a hustle rollercoaster.

$150k (NYC)

I’m with Creative Director 1. The hustle never ends.

For me, it’s how much I have saved in cash and investments. I’m at the point where I’m ok working part time at say 70k because I’m only covering my expenses while my investments grow. But until I hit that point I wanted to make as much as possible without inflating my lifestyle so I could save. I had years I made 60 and got by, then years I made over 150 and threw it in the bank. Keeping your expenses low and establishing a nut is the best way to escape the hustle at any point in your career.

How would you go about finding a remote AE role with a 100k base?

I have about 7-8 years of sales experience and have consistently out performed my OTE. I absolutely love my current role but I feel like I have out grown the company as there isn't a ton of opportunity to make more than I am currently making.

I opened up my LinkedIn to recruiters but all the offers are 60-70k base and 120-140k OTE. I am shooting for MINIMUM 80k base but ideally 100k or more.

What would you do?

What’s the going rate for a mid-level AD (3ish years) in Chicago?

I’m curious, I Just had a Canadian company reach out for a remote recruiter role. Upon asking them for their benefits package specially since they have no physical presence in the US, I was told they don’t share that unless they are closer to making an offer.

Is this normal ? Most US companies share their benefits package with pride usually upon your first meeting. What’s your take on this? Would you invest time interviewing and not knowing what kind of benefits you will get ?

Managing attorneys in small firms - how much do you make?

I'm in South Florida. Currently a 6 year associate at a small firm (~12 attorneys, 55 staff). Making a move towards Managing Attorney position that they are considering hiring from outside the firm for. I'm going to make the case that they should promote from within and give me the position. I'm objectively a good candidate for it. Question is... what's a good salary for that position? What do you make? Thanks.

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

As a Junior I have this internal battle of being like a monkey and doing exactly what I’m told to do even if it seems wrong vs. actually using my brain to point out errors in instructions or make judgment calls (on low-level things) but risking being wrong and looking dumb or making the midlevel feel like I’m trying to one-up them. Often times, the partner’s comments validate what I was thinking but I still don’t want to alienate any associates or develop a bad rep.
