Roughly now. :)
If you buy right it’s not like it’ll depreciate much…cmon…just dip your toe in the hobby!
There’s never a one size fits all answer to your question, and debt / net worth should factor into the decision as well. I would say purchasing a watch shouldn’t significantly alter your savings rate or other short or long term life goals. I’d also note that you’re more likely to buy a watch you end up regretting with your first as tastes change the further you get into the hobby… definitely don’t overextend yourself.
My first watch was a 2k longines and I made around 125k several years ago. I don’t wear that watch much any more.
Recently snagged an Omega Seamaster as my first luxury watch after thinking about it for a year and a half. Also had recently gotten promoted ($100k+ base) which definitely helped me justify the purchase. Only other thing I’m saving for is an eventual down payment on a house. So a couple thousand splurged on an entry level luxury watch wasnt going throw me off too far the timeline for that savings goal.

It doesn’t matter what salary as long as you have the funds available. I bought a Daytona making 90k in 2019 and haven’t regretted it since
I mean. It depends what you want to get. You can get Oris, Tissot, longines, Hamilton, Cartier, a bevy of other brands for anywhere from 500 to 5k and get fantastic pieces. If to you luxury means the 120k watch then you need to make the type of money that outlaws for a 120k fuck around purchase.
*Shrugs* luxury does not mean unobtainable

You can get into watches pretty reasonably and work your way up as you learn more about watches and what you like. But as someone else said there’s no right answer. Some people will stretch their budget and eat ramen, others will wear an apple watch for years before getting into real watches at a higher salary. Just don’t go into debt for it.
Watches also shouldn’t be considered an investment (at least very few are) and make sure to insure if the thought of having to replace it makes you uneasy.

Depends more on expenses you might have imo
I have a handful of Hamilton and Seiko’s (and other lower brands) and just now getting a moonwatch pro. Total comp $180k. It all depends on what you want and what your expenses are. My house has taken most of my disposable income over the past 4 years.
225 TC and I mostly wear a B&R or SKX. Occasionally, vintage Heuer. Think it’s all a matter of priorities. Mine was redoing my kitchen with Gaggeneau appliances - which are kinda like fine watches. 😂
I used my leftover student loan money to buy my first Rolex when I was a junior in college and I was making like $13/hr at CVS
