Yes
Yep!!
Chief
Yep and we built an integration into teams and outlook to reward everyone for hitting them. Associates who are exceeding hours or on track to do so appear in gold in outlook and in the time software, those annualizing to be on track in green, then to yellow and finally red for those who are really just failing to meet expectations.
Helps everyone know where they stand
Apart from the gold, do you get a sticker though?
We all have access to your hours specifically. Was that a nap on tuesday?
No… but the assistant I work with does….
Thats how my firm is too.
Yes Goodwin does
No. That sounds super distracting and toxic, or it would be to me at least. I even hide the Peloton “leader board” while spinning. This would send me over the edge 🤣🤣🤣
Yes for better or worse
At my firm only partners can see everyone’s hours, they get a report every week
Small firm-technically we are not supposed to but something’s wrong with our billing software and I have access to everyone’s hours.
Our practice got a monthly email that had a few pieces of data - your specific hours YTD and the month before and the practice group (associates) average YTD and average the month before. Just helpful to know if you’re staying with the pack or not (spoiler alert, average was often below expectation)
Yes, and they show that literally zero associates are going to hit the recently-increased billable hour target for this year.
What is your new target? Almost no associates at my firm will hit minimum this year

No only on deals we’re staffed on together can I see what they billed when we get invoices to review as a group
Rising Star
My last firm we started getting emailed lists weekly of the associates and partners and how much they generated through flat fees, contingent work, and hourly for the previous week. That irritated me. Seemed to motivate the others to catch up to me on hours as I had higher hours than them and more money generated due to generating business, but I don’t like unnecessarily competitive environments. It made the environment feel more hostile and was definitely one of many factors in my decision to lateral. I don’t want my coworkers to dislike me. I had higher hours because my practice area was booming compared to several of the others at that moment so I had no choice but to work crazy hours to keep up with the workload or I’d lose my license due to malpractice for not meeting my court deadlines. Firms think they’re incentivizing those who they view as lower performers but they also create a more hostile environment for the higher performers as well
At my prior midlaw firm, yes - full access. At my current biglaw firm, we receive anonymized quarterly reports with all associates hours.
F&P Atlanta sends out a spreadsheet every week with everyone’s hours - associates, partners, paralegals, of counsel. I fucking hate it
The silver lining is that this requires partners to at least try to justify their time.
Yes AmLaw50
We can see everyone’s hours. Kind of nuts
At my previous law firm, they used to send out a spreadsheet every Monday with everyone’s hours. It did nothing but create unnecessary competition. It was not entirely reflective of everyone’s circumstances. Like women on maternity leave. And I think it created a culture of people inflating hours. That info should be anonymous or sent to the partners only.
Nope. Thankfully.
The Leaderboard 🏆 apparently it is frowned upon to draw a red line above your own name and write “underperforming” and forward it to the managing partner. Who knew 🤷🏼♀️ (my distain for the toxic insecurity it created among the associates was well known).
If so, which firms are you at?

Yes. BL in Canada.
