Attention C Suite: If you end the year without taking any of your PTO, does management take this into account when bonus time comes around?

Of course not.

@CD: The liability is something like this: the agency has to keep enough cash available to pay out every employee for every day of PTO that they are owed. Theoretically, if every employee were terminated tomorrow, and each had accrued ten days of PTO, that would be a lot of money. If the agency had 100 employees each making $500/day, the agency would need to pay out half a million dollars. Thats why they want you to use up your days. That’s why unlimited PTO has become so popular.

Here’s a rule of thumb for advertising you can carry with you and apply to every aspect of your life... “Nobody really cares about you except your momma.” Follow this rule and you’ll never be disappointed. Yes, there are good people and friendships formed at work, but in the end if it’s between you or them on Ad Island, they’re going to vote you off to save their own skin. Do you think the C-suite really knows or cares you worked all those hours? Hell no. All they’re about is making a weak attempt at creating some sort of ‘culture’ and lining their pockets with fat bonuses. It’s like hugging your refrigerator when your feeling sad and expecting a hug back. It ain’t gonna happen.

like

I agree that’s mostly true. But then why bother giving bonuses?

@OP: The bonus is not a “thank you”. It is a carrot used to keep you trotting along.

like

nope

Hahaha. No way, but I like your optimism.

Sadly, not in the slightest unless you’re with one of those rare companies that allows cashing out unused days end of year.

The only way I studied in college is by cramming. Sadly is so hard for me to get studying as it just seems like it’s so long of studying till you take the test and never ends. Have any of you guys passed FAR in a month of cramming? I’m also working but my clients are a little bit easier this time of year and have some PTO days at the end of next month. If you don’t mind sharing your studying techniques if you did pass in a month that would be awesome!

Looking to do an international trip next year with my girlfriend. Both around 26 yrs old. We’re kind of all over the map, from Croatia to Peru for spots to pick. Any suggestions? I’ve been doing civil defense work for well over 15 years. I am seriously thinking about switching sides. I’m tired of being valued by how much I bill instead of my results. I’m also tired of billing 10+ hours a day. And really I’m just overall miserable. Can anyone tell me what being a plaintiffs attorney is like? Do you get salary and commission? Do you really have no billable hours? How does that work?I make 180k a year, can I get at least that much as a salary doing plaintiffs work?

One of the most emotionally deflating aspects of COVID has been that I don't have anything to look forward to. Vacations, outings with friends, family get-togethers, etc. I am tempted to book a trip to one of my normal vacation spots 🌺 for May 202 since the flights are so ridiculously cheap that even if I cancelled I wouldn't care but it puts a carrot on the calendar for me. Anybody else doing the same? Anybody betting on dates we can safely vacation and booking in advance now?
