There is no top 10 MBA in Canada. Quality drops dramatically after top 3 or 4.
Also American companies don’t often recruit from Canadian business schools.
I would go one step further and say there is really 2 top MBA programs in Canada (Ivey & Rotman), and both pale in comparison to top US programs. Extremely limited recruiting at Canadian MBA programs for U.S. based roles. If you want to be in the U.S. post-MBA I would highly recommend a U.S. MBA.
Queens is a distant third and Schulich is not even top tier anymore.
You are better off going to Ross even.
McGill is the better choice if you had to pick between the two. It still has some shine from its heyday. What about HEC Montreal?
Queens Accelerated MBA, while not Ivey or Rotman, is part time and just 1 year.
Accelerated is good for people looking to boost trajectory in current company/industry but not very good for career changers.
Very helpful, thank you! I am planning on doing my MBA in Montreal (McGill or JMSB) as my partner lives there. I am leaning towards John Molson School of Business as the cost is much lower. I figured it would not be easy to recruit for US jobs out of Montreal. Do you think it’s possible though? I am also wondering if switching careers to marketing is also not an added difficulty and if I should maybe rather move to FP&A, even though I would prefer to pivot
If you are in Montreal 100% do McGill over John Molson. I used to do a lot of work in the US and McGill is a very well known school there relative to other Canadian school. HEC Montreal is another good option but better if you want to go overseas.
Hey can you shed more light on HEC Montreal? Seriously considering as an international student for personal reasons. Want to pivot into strategy, tech or startups. Thanks
