Data & Analytics Consultants

Average entry level data scientist salary if pivoting from management consulting with 5 years experience in business analysis? Also, currently making 107k.

I feel like we work for way less money in consulting compared to real tech folks. If you're a real data scientist, I'm thinking $170-190k depending on negotiations. I see mediocre people making so much.

Tech has higher entry-level and mid-level salaries, consulting ceilings are higher given a partner track. One thing to keep in mind is the debt-fueled spending that’s been sustaining these tech companies and their payrolls. I think mass layoffs on technical teams like Snapchat’s recent one, while unprecedented, will become more common place as the stimulus winds down. Salaries will also normalize a bit given the current surge in interest and all of these new certificates and degrees that allegedly qualify people.

D2, do you see those 200k+ jobs in consulting, or only in industry? I fit the hands-on profile you described (plus 5 years business experience), but want to stay in consulting and am struggling to find an opp offering over 150k in the Northeast

Wouldn’t give much of a price premium on business analytics skills. Remember if you are calling yourself a data scientist- you are saying you have the knowledge skills and abilities to build complex systems like self driving cars. It’s not at all like business analytics. This question also Depends if you work for a technology company, a consulting company or a non Data native company but a good baseline would be an entry level data scientist.
