Today (day 99 with my employer) I was put on a performance improvement plan. Such a shit show of a company! After the offer, and before my start date the company reorganized the department… new boss and department reporting structure. Too late for me to renegotiate, and my job at my former employer was not a fallback option. On day 3 one of the only long term employees in the department accepted a different job. Sooo many red flags! I need to jump but I don’t have anywhere to land.

This might sound like a crazy question but never having worked in public before: Billable hours - if you’re very efficient at your job, do you stretch out the time and work slower to get to your billable hours or do you safe the client the money. Im in niche practice area at Big4 (2 YOE)x of which law firms have the practice group. I’m in my late 20s, no kids, not married, significant student debt. The WLB I’ve had is fantastic, and most of my friends are miserable in BigLaw. But obviously the money coming with a lateral opportunity is staring at me, and given my student debt and no family of my own, perhaps it’s worth. Among the money move and grinding out and coming back to Big4 at higher level later? Any insight is appreciated. TIA!
