I said that it's possible to switch but you will have to work really hard and face many challenges. He said he is ready to give whatever it takes.

Questions on Back door Roth:

(1) When you contribute the max ($6k) to a traditional IRA and convert, do you pay any taxes, assuming no gains (e.g. buying VMFXX)? Contributions are non-deductible.

(2) When rolling over old 401(k)s into an traditional IRA and converting to Roth IRA, do you pay taxes on the entire (non-Roth) amount?

(3) Can you use the same traditional IRA account to process multiple rollovers? I have an empty traditional and Roth set up with Vanguard.

CS and SWE is great in that it can be applicable to a great range of fields, to create immensely helpful tools for other things.

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.

I’m up for senior this year, but concerned I won’t be promoted. At the end of my first year I had great reviews that were a mix of at at level or developing towards next level and had one critic that said I needed to develop technical knowledge in one area of tax. This year, I’m acting senior on almost all of my engagements, I’ve successfully trained all the new associates and new senior associates on my biggest engagement, and have been told that I’ve exceeded expectations on that cont.

Received an offer from a small firm for 25k more than my current salary. Problem is it is about an hour away and I’m required to go into the office a minimum of 2 days a week. I’m not necessarily unhappy at my current firm but I started looking for other opportunities because I was curious what other firms were offering. Also Office I work at is very small and we just lost a senior. So I will be the only senior there this tax season. Worried I might burn a bridge if I leave.
