Away vs. Eagle Creek vs. Tumi

Trying to figure out what suitcase brand to get for my wife. All travel is leisure, not business in nature. Thanks!

Does anyone have opinions on the handles of Away?

I heard the handle quality on Away is not as sturdy as you’d expect at that price point. If you can afford Tumi, I think that’s the way to go

like

I like the less rigid away handle. It has held up well from my abuse, but doesn't vibrate your hand. The actual grip part feels really nice in your hand

like

Given Tumi’s new price points, i feel might as well go up to Rimowa. Especially for leisure travel - stylish/less-business-like, and will last a lifetime. (Tumi also got rid of their lifetime warranty ever since samsonite acquired them 😔 )

like

^clarification on Tumi price points - they have introduced lower priced lines which i don’t think are as good/durable. And they have increased prices on the standard-road-warrior stuff like Alpha3 etc

B&R, or at a lower price point eBags offer amazing value

Love my away for business travel, but if it’s all personal, I’d avoid hard shell and maybe even a standard wheelie. Sometimes my personal travel involves trying to cram something into a bus, walking on cobblestones to a hotel, etc. I got a great padded soft shell backpack bag from REI that can be a carry on, packed full can be checked, and came with the usual great REI warranty.

I absolutely love the “bigger carry-on” away bag. I’ve packed for two weeks in just my carry on and could never do that in my regular sized carry on bag

Mine has fit in the overheads on every flight I’ve taken since I got it. I haven’t tried on any super small planes yet though

like

I have a set of the Delsey Chatelet hardside and I love it! Great quality, classic pieces, while still being distinctive

I think it’s very lightweight for being a hardshell and as durable as it is

Luggage Works > Travel Pro > Tumi > Away > Eagle Creek

handle isn't the best for away but they have lifetime warranty so I am not concerned. pm me for referral if you want a discount.
