Hey Googlers, I’m going in for my GCP TAM second round on Monday and had a few QQs for you all:
1. For the RRK2 case study if there is a scenario for handling peak time workloads where the client did a lift & shift of a monolithic architecture, is the best suggestion to move them to micro services to enable serverless and auto scaling features?
2. I was told that they’ll give me 15 mins to prep after the case study is shared live, would you suggest I build a 1 pager or is that not required?Google

Honestly assuming this is virtual and in mid January it could be worse. I know someone in Houston a few years back who had to get up at 3am on New Years Day, drive to Beaumont, Texas, and wade through retention ponds to measure liquid levels inside oil tanks at a refinery.
@SM1 LMAO he did work for KPMG! Small world!
This past spring I got a virtual count for an east coast facility for 6am their time. I was off at noon but I was pretty peeved by the level of disregard for our personal lives. This is public accounting, not a military exercise.
I had one 11:30pm-5:30am where I actually had to go to the client site. You should count yourself lucky
do have an understanding of what the best time is to be there. Because I Woke up for an inventory count at 2am because I HAD to be there at 4:30 and it’s was 2 hour drive away. They weren’t ready and ask me to come back at 5pm... . But I also had others where they run constantly counts each day and that was the time the wanted me to come. Better earlier that later cause could take 4-6 hrs, idk about virtual though
It’s only an hour difference not too bad. I know it’s early, but I’ve had to wake up a 2:30am to go drive to Louisiana from Houston to do a count more than a few times. It sounds like it’s virtual so wake up at 5:20am, chug some coffee, and do the count. Fingers crossed it’s over early then you can take the rest of the day off. It’s one day, it will pass before you know it.
Yeah I’ve had to be at a 3am start time before and had to drive like 45 mins to get there. Part of the gig unfortunately, but at least it’s virtual!
Had one after a market holiday party at 4:30am so worst part was i couldn’t drink and then drive but they gave me a hotel for a night and i ended up finishing at like 6:30am so i went back to the hotel and crashed
If the count starts at 6:30 why are you getting their right when it starts ? You only need to be there before they are finished, so you can observe how the count is going and how the people are performing their counts, and then start your counts towards the end. Only an amateur would show up right when they start, you’ll be sitting their all day
Does anyone ever actually observe them doing the count? In my experience you are almost always just reperforming and doing the count yourself. Most of my instructions have been to show up at the start of the count.
Virtual is way better so I would just do it..
Ouch - unfortunately this is part of the gig at times. It won’t be the first time this industry disappoints you and doesn’t align with what your professors and/or recruiters told you.
Good luck.
Honestly, if a count seems unreasonable the best you can do is ask for hotel accommodations but since it's virtual there isn't anything for you to do but roll out of bed and login to your laptop.
