I like how you just assume youll make it that far by just sticking around.
Uh - I feel like if you are questioning your career before manger - making SM or Partner might be a little presumptuous.
There are psychotic people out there who love this job. 😱
I don't assume and I'm not questioning my career. I don't coast. I know I'm a top performer on track to make manager next year. I like the work, I like the flexibility, I like the people. But I just need a change. I work with two people who have made me their go-to person. And every client I have is with either one of them. I want to work with different people who will take the time to mentor and coach me too. I work well with these two people that there's hardly ever any real constructive feedback. And I don't want to be stuck doing the work I already know "well enough". I could keep doing that and get perfect at it, but I want to do work I haven't seen before and have the opportunity to develop technically in other areas. Staying where I am is not going to change things and get me there.
Like is not the same as love
OP - I wouldn't switch firms, but maybe a new office or formal rotation in a different group. I moved offices (due to a personal situation) after 4 years with the firm and it was nice to shake things up. Which group are you in now? They have the voluntary ITS/M&A transfer going on now, and there's always the WNTS tours or even an L&D tour. There are also short term secondments abroad if you are interested. Start talking to your coach or RP now if you want to try something new.
Change office you'll get the promotion to managers esp if you jump to Ey and you'll get a 20% bump plus a nice sign on. Win. Win. Win.
