Baby fever is REAL ! Any advice from the moms?

Ask yourself the following questions: Is your husband or boyfriend agreeable to it? Is it a long term stable relationship without domestic violence or drug issues? If you live in the USA, do you have enough money saved up to pay for hospital bills and FMLA leave? Do you have plans for after baby arrives- If you are returning to work then have you scouted local daycares or are you hiring a nanny or having relatives watch the child? There is a lot to think about here but if you decide having a baby is what you and your partner want to do then I would recommend being as organized as possible and if there is something you want to do that would be difficult to do while pregnant or with a baby, then do it now and get it out of your system. My biggest regret is that I wanted to have a couples only vacation in Mexico and I waited and waited and then began having kids 🤣. I’ll never get my peaceful two weeks in Mexico 😆

When I started experiencing baby fever before we were quite ready, I tried to be intentional about appreciating the aspects of my life that would change as a parent. It tempered the baby excitement a bit to acknowledge how much I enjoyed the more selfish, indulgent, or spontaneous things I could do before my baby was born. Frankly as a first time parent now it also helped the adjustment to feel like I took full advantage of and appreciated that freedom rather than took it for granted.

Thanks for your advice! We’ve definitely been there and taken time to enjoy our relationship before adding a little one to the mix 😊

Spend a full day with someone else’s kid!

Response varies by whose kid I spend the day with lol

My full time job (not SMU) is literally making me sick-spent time at the ER. One associate quit and another is out of full paid parental leave (must be nice, I’m not paid for doing double the work)…so I’m now expected to do the work of 3 associates. My supervisor isn’t exactly understanding, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been searching for jobs, but it’s difficult since my background is diverse and not focused on one area of law. If I quit, how hard is it to find a new job?

We have an AMAZING nanny - we adore her and she is so great with our child. We are just using her for 6 months while we wait for our daughter to get into a nursery program. We didn’t talk about this up front - but, typically, what do you do in these situations for vacation/holidays? If she goes on vacation, do we still pay her for those days? If we go on vacation, do we still pay her for those days (supposing we give plenty of heads up)?

had a miscarriage recently and am having hard time not to think or worry about what happened. It’s been 3 weeks and my husband just yelled at me saying 1. I should be grateful for the kid I have 2. We didn’t plan so I can’t worry about it. 3. That he is done caring for our toddler in the mornings( he wakes up pretty early in the morning due to daylight savings) and i am unable to sleep at night, end up sleeping in the morning. Does anyone go to therapy for miscarriage? Does it help?

I’m hesitant to leave Deloitte however Bc my husband and I plan to start a family in about 2 years and I know deloitte’s 16 week parental leave policy is rare in the marketplace. Thoughts on weaning - my sweet baby is now 13.5 months and was down to nursing twice a day after she turned one. The last ~2 weeks she’s either been too distracted or too tired to nurse in the evening

My mother, sister (who is a single mom with two kids), are thinking about buying another house and i’ve been thinking of investing in it.,She would make the mortgage payments. this would require me to have the house in my name and to make a down payment. bad idea ?

Currently a few weeks left on parental leave and have had a potential opportunity come up with a smaller firm that I think makes more sense for my career goals. The question I have is: assuming I get an offer and the details work out, how do I navigate leaving? Should I provide notice right away? Go back to my current firm for a couple weeks and then give notice? I certainly don’t want to burn bridges. How would you feel on the other side?

I have an employee who has been out on Mat leave since beginning of October. She is scheduled to come back beginning of Jan. Today I received an email from our employee asking if she can work the following schedule for the month of Jan: two week 3 days on, two off and then another two 2 days on, 3 off. This is due to COVID and not wanting to put the child in daycare (which I totally get). Not being in a situation like this before, how do I respond?

Just finished my compensation meeting at work, got my promo and a really nice raise that pushed me into the six figure club. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I'd ever be making this much money or be having this much success I would have laughed. My wife is super happy for me and has been a big support but I'm secretly starting to resent the fact I settled for her. If I had known I could do this well in life I would have waited and done so much better than her 😕
