Honestly, you just need to get through. Night sleep starts to consolidate around 8 weeks, and day naps start to consolidate around 3/4 months. I promise, a 5-6 hour block of sleep will happen soon, and you’ll wake in a panic, sure something is wrong (it won’t be) Otherwise, look for ways to streamline/offload everything else. I personally really like the Kiinde system for pumping and bottles. It means I pump directly into the storage and feeding packet, and after feedings, the only thing that really needs to be cleaned is the nipple. No pouring back and forth, and both my kids (and my nephew) took the bottles immediately. Final suggestion is to start putting baby down drowsy, but awake. It gives them the opportunity to get used to falling asleep on their own. I’m not saying CIO - pick them up if they cry, but give the opportunity. You may find there were 15min of rocking to sleep you can get back, and you avoid the worst of sleep training later on.

What she said. Very good advice.

That sounds about right. Do you have a partner who might take turns?

It does get better. At night I would just do the feeding and husband would do everything else so I’d instantly conk out. It is ROUGH but yeah like what others said, no need for you to clean bottles every round (we just bought a ton and put them in the dishwasher once a day). Are you exclusively pumping or just building a stash? I felt like I got too obsessed with pumping and there was zero need because I was already exclusively breastfeeding and with maternity leave all the early frozen milk wasn’t even really all that fresh anymore by the time I went back to work and I would then just give the baby fresh milk anyway. If possible, finding ways to sleep during the day really helped me...if the baby was going to be a night owl then I’d just do what he did and napped with him during the longer day naps. If you’re interested in cosleeping, it really worked for us because I could side nurse and then we’d just fall asleep together and it was the fastest way for him to get to sleep without the rocking. I feel you though, just reading this gives me goosebumps because it was a horrible time and I am not a newborn person at all.

Thanks everyone. Helps to know this isn’t just my baby or me being impatient

Try to stretch feedings to every three hours, especially in the evenings and at night. Try to encourage Baby to really eat enough at each feeding to be full, not just “snack.” However, like everyone else said, these first few weeks are just really rough no matter what. Do what you need to get through, and know that just because your baby isn’t sleeping enough or eating enough or cries too much, etc., it’s not because you’re doing something wrong!! We thought we were missing something since our baby didn’t sleep well before six weeks .... nope! Keep trying new things if you want, but don’t stress that you’re failing in some way. Not at all! This period is just really tough for everyone.

That all sounds about right for 4 weeks. I would suggest focusing on the things that you absolutely need to do because physically no one else can do it. That’s feeding and pumping. Can your partner help with everything else? Cleaning pump parts is a no brained, you shouldn’t be doing that. Can someone take the baby after feeding and burp and rock them so you can get a quick nap in? Does your baby take a bottle? Maybe switch one nighttime feed to a bottle so your partner can take that one. Offload what you can, it gets better!

It gets better! Mine is 12.5 weeks old and I can’t remember from my first when it got better but this time I’m trying Taking Cara Babies and it’s helping check out her instagram or blog .. I ended up purchasing her course when he was 11 weeks old cause I was at my wits end .. basically sleep begets sleep so making sure the daytime routine is good

Cont... any tips on improving this? Things I can do during the day? Any secrets or tips which helped you alot. Going back to work in 4 weeks

Must you pump at night?

Yea I would suggest not. Even if supplementing with formula and trying to build supply. Give yourself this little break at night.

It gets better mama! I promise! In addition to all this great advice, remember that it is temporary and baby will grow out of this. Take care of yourself with free 1-minute self care like putting on a fresh set of clothes (even if it’s pjs), put on fun socks, wear perfume or your favorite scented lotion (this one is my fav bc it’s easy AND quick), put on lipstick, make tea in your favorite cup, write in a journal, text a friend hello, play your favorite show or movie in the background while nursing or pumping, jam out to your favorite music, step outside with the baby for even just a bit, record a video diary while you’re miserable— talking aloud can be therapeutic

Night nanny please ! They saved us !

One night per week on demand when I need (usually Tues or Wed night). 7 hours each night.

I had my doula do a an overnight or partial overnight 1/ week to get my through and asked my partner/ mom/sister to do an evening feeding (like 10pm) once a week to help as well. If I could do a 7pm feeding and go to sleep till midnight, that helped a lot even tho it made the nights really long. Really, you gotta watch Taking Cara Babies infant class. It saved me and got us to 5-6 hour stretches really fast

Try taking cara babies! Check her insta and blog for a ton of free help. I personally purchased her course and it was lifesaving.

Since I was a child I’ve never liked leftovers. I love my food fresh. When I cook, if I make too much, I eat and throw the rest out. When I go out and eat, I stuff myself because I know it “won’t taste good later.” I hate leftovers so much that I genuinely cannot meal prep, the taste of food that’s been in the fridge for a day or more is gross to me. I told a friend about this and she said that’s stupid snd strange… I’m just here to see if I really am stupid and strange or if anyone understands?

Been at ZS for couple of years and considering applying to other consulting firms (LEK in particular, MBB maybe) for better pay and progression, especially as I get closer to M level where ZS pay is lower. May enjoy doing different work too. Currently at the consultant level with a TC at about 180k. WLB is doable and I have great flexibility, picking up my kid to school everyday at 5PM and getting back to work later in the evening. Wondering if that would be a mistake considering WLB ?
