Bad news friends - I work at a top tech firm and just got word that executive comps are now tied to diversity metrics. Surprise surprise, Asians were grouped as a whole and not considered diversity.

D7 - don’t detract and Don’t get it twisted. Asians fought alongside blacks during the suffrage movement and the civil rights movement and the union/labor rights movement but we never get the press. If you want to be heard, be willing to listen and understand the other side. Encourage you to read the many posts and hearts in support of the BLM in this forum. If you’re only looking for hate that’s all you’ll ever find. Glad you are here and hope your presence and other people of color here will better help you all understand what we go through as Asians as many of us are and have been trying to do for you

Exactly. We all need to be working together.

As a group, Asians do need to acknowledge that there's a greater degree of anti blackness than anti other ethnicities/race. Furthermore, we need to stop whitewashing ourselves into the majority because most Americans do not view us as the majority. At best we are the model minority and need to acknowledge systemic racism affects us too. This doesn't excuse other minorities from excluding us from the oppression Olympics. Just because we are last in a few criteria doesn't mean we do not face struggles!

Your first point is not what microagressions are at all. You are equating to a foreigner coming to America expecting people to speak their languages and understand foreign culture versus Americans going to foreign places and expect people there to speak English or understand American culture. The reason why the latter is more prevalent because of the power cultural dynamics that exist that have put Americans/English into the dominant position. The norm is the norm is because we do not challenge it and accept it as it is. If you are questioning why foreign culture is not as dominant as American culture, then you would need to deep dive into colonialism, modern pop culture, and history of American military occupation too. But the focus of your argument why is certain traits of society viewed as racist but the reverse is not, I'm giving you the barebone historical context why certain actions should be more outraged than others. Its definitely not equal when it comes to racism.

Second point, I'm asking you to dive deeper and look into examples of instances where you might have been given the benefit of your doubt because of your looks. Maybe you were able to succeed in academics because people expected you succeed from peers to parents, likewise nobody want to see you in professional sports because you don't fit the profile of the average athletes (true story of what happened to Jeremy Lin) so you shy away from dedicating your life to sports. The reverse is true for black people, right.

Third point, You have to accept the fact that you are shaped by forces of society. I am not asking for changes overnight, but examining those forces will be fundamental to creating changes.

Y’all are so angry and condescending towards black people when 1. It is their leadership and sacrifice during major civil rights movements that brought YOU opportunity (see: MLK, Julian Bond, how you are included in civil rights legislation) and 2. The group that benefits the most from affirmative action and diversity initiatives are WHITE WOMEN. Stats have proven this from day 1.
Make it make sense.

SA1 which part didn't you understand? Can you articulate what was confusing about it? Can you reference a single phrase and explain what about it you don't understand? No? Didn't think so. You might as well not say anything next time if you're not willing to put forward a real argument. Bark elsewhere

Lol the whole diversity push is full of bs

They really aren’t joking when they say there’s mad anti-black sentiment within the Asian community.

Historically definitely. Although I’ve been seeing a lot more Asians embracing their own culture. It definitely helps that there are a lot more Asian representation in Hollywood and skincare nowadays.

Why on earth are we attacking black people here when (most likely) it was a white person who committed the error of grouping all Asians under one category? That’s the issue that we need to tackle as a community. The term Asian in the US can refer to a huge range of experiences it really does us a disservice to lump us all together.

Aside from that... generally speaking I think it’s good that orgs are putting money where their mouth is when it comes to diversity.

Ok I see thanks

In areas with larger concentrations of Asians, they have been typically grouped with White. Our numbers in corp jobs are better than our general population numbers but you typically see a ceiling in middle management.

Why

How are biracial/mixed people categorized?

My half black half Filipino cousins identify more with black when they are guys since Asian men have a lot of negative stereotypes and Filipinos more when they are women since black women have more negative stereotypes. A cousin of mine hates her name Bria since Bria is a stereotypical black name..
