Bain fish, what are your thoughts about having to serve an extra year as SACs vs. their other MB counterparts who can go straight to the post-MBA level?

I’m in my third year as a construction law associate. Is there any way possible to switch to labor and employment, or am I stuck in this field forever?

I’m an SAE at a PR firm but would really like to transition into advertising. My last job I worked for advertising agencies to do PR around their campaigns (Adweek, Ad Age , FastCo, Campaign) and was able to speak with a lot CMOS at brands on their strategies, so I feel like it would be a really nice career pivot. My question is does anyone have advice on what level I should apply for at an agency? I have no marketing agency experience and only PR. I’m sure I should aim low but not sure how low

Feeling so lost. One day it hit me hard that I don’t think the career path I’ve been in is right for me. It’s been gnawing at me ever since. Looking for a change, but don’t want to leave my company just for the sake of leaving, or just better pay. I want to know that my next move is a step that is going to take me places.

I feel utterly passionless which doesn’t help. And anything that sounds remotely interesting isn’t something I feel I can monetize.

Am I alone in this? Any advice?

Fishes, I have a job title question. Does it matter if a role is in the same project with different titles? Example: SA, State and Local, Researcher vs SA, State and Local, Business Analyst. The job description makes it sound like they are the same project. However, Business Analyst does have more requirements/qualifications listed than Researcher. I’m coming from industry (3 YOE). I am project manager in clinical research industry (CRO). After earning PhD, I gave up my science dream to take a more stable job. After slowly climbing the ladders, I feel like I finally got a seat at the table. Half the days I like the hustle, but now I miss being creative. I want to take more brainstorming, decision making responsibilities but I don’t see that in the career path for PM. Career path usually goes like this- Sr PM, Director l, Sr Director, and so on. But all do same work.

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?
