My first time applying and getting an offer for a job posting without a salary on it, aka non-government job. $21k below what I currently make and $3k below the minimum I told them- I went for a job with a bigger title and more responsibility. Other companies need to learn from government jobs. Today I’m loving that my current government job appreciates my worth.

Advice: how to manage a reapplication as a R3 applicant who was waitlisted and finally dinged last week. Client wants to set up an LLC where a President gets 25% of the membership interests but contributes no capital other than his services. Governance is supposed to be handled by the vote of the members based on percentage ownership. It seems like the President is going to recognize tax on the value of his contributed services unless we structure his interests as profits interests. Would welcome anyone’s thoughts. Tips for becoming more independent as you progress from junior to midlevel? I am starting to be put into the position of just having to handle things including drafting and could use some advice from others.

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.

When I compare two Word docs with comment bubbles in order to generate a PDF redline...all of the Word comment bubbles show up in tiny, unreadable margins. It looks like the program doesn’t adjust the margins when comparing, I can’t figure out how to fix it.

I used to use Change-Pro (which I understand is also owned by Litera) where this was not an issue.
