Bank of America is holding 30K deposited by check and is saying that they will release after 10 days. We were transferring money from wife’s account to mine. Money has been deducted from the source account (TD Checking) the next day. Is this normal? Is there any way to get funds released sooner. We are ok if they even send it back to TD.

It sucks OP, but bad guys ruin it for everyone else.

Happened to me at BOA too. You can try calling or visiting a branch and speaking to a manager but no guarantees.

Lesson learnt. I will try to do that.

It’s normal. Takes time.

10 days is long, but a hold is normal, sometimes it’s a couple of days, but I’ve never seen 10. If you have a good relationship with your account manager they can sometimes pull some strings.

10 day hold happened to me once on a check when it was within 30 days of opening a new account. They claimed it was typical for banks to require this for new accounts.

Oh ours is over 11 years old account. This is first time to deposit the check over 30k though.

Very specific question - Canadian and European spouse travelling to Canada from Europe. However, spouse’s ETA not approved. Embassy told us all we need is proof of marriage and my citizenship (CDN passport) to travel. Asked embassy about ETA and they said “we don’t have an answer you should be fine”. Anyone with experience dealing with this during COVID? Should we try and fly?
