Recently joined a company that's likely to IPO in the first half of 2021 and a chunk of my equity vests in the fall. Anything I can do to limit my tax liability, specifically relating to vesting equity?

My understanding is that I owe taxes as soon as it vests (assuming liquidation), either by taking it out of my shares or paying when I file.

Fishes..part confession (thanks to anonymity) and part advice post. I am 45+ and apart from 401k didn't have any investment accounts (hangs head in shame). Finally got it together in 2021 and put about 350k in Vanguard target retirement 2020 fund. Got the shock of my life when filing taxes - the long term capital gains amount on my `1099 DIV I got from Vanguard increased my taxes to 5 figures! Is there something I am doing drastically wrong?

I thought I found the perfect position in March but I was let go today. I was blindsided. Never a complaint, my reviews were excellent and I got along well with the owners. My only issue was the PEO not speaking with me and going directly to the owners with her agenda. I asked ownership to work with me and I would pull the PEO in, if necessary. Apparently, they have a longstanding friendship and he does not think of them as a vendor as a friend. She suggested a on-site PEO rep and out I go!

I have a house which I bought for $238 k 6 years before . I am planning to sell it for $300k . But now I am in confusion whether even if I get an offer for $300k , when the buyers bank does appraisal and if it comes below $300 k , then what will happen. 1. If the buyer has cash offer then nothing like that 2. But if not then say the appraisal came for $280 , what do we do then ?
3.Should I pay $500 and do an appraisal before I list it.

I’m looking to purchase a home. I have enough for 20% down and I qualify for a traditional mortgage but my dad suggested he lend me the full cash to make the sale that way I have more negotiating room and can close faster. Then once I close I can refinance it and keep 20% in the house and pay my dad back for the 20%. Is there a downside to this? Will it get messy?

How does one get pre approved and start the process of looking to buy a home? Do I go online and do it myself or do I find a real estate agent first and they’ll help with that? I’m so lost on how to begin the process as this would be my first home.

I'd like to sell my condo in Central NJ but I've never done something like that before and feel a bit overwhelmed / intimidated by the process. Adding to the complexity, it's a deceased parent on the mortgage, not me. Is a realtor someone that can help? How do I find a good one?
