What it would have been. Just like if you use a coupon at a restaurant
On the would have been. They live on tips so while they haven't billed you they buttering you both up. More like liquoring you both up. Lol
You tipped fine.
As a former bartender, you have to walk a fine line.. If I closed out a $20 tab with a $25 tip, someone will wonder why they tipped so much, and if the place doesn't have comp tabs to track that, it could get them in trouble for giving away drinks. Personally I tip on credit card on what the bill is, and leave cash in addition.
Ok good points, will keep in mind for the future. I did $41 total on a $28 tab and walked away feeling like that was appropriate but now feeling it was a little on the low end for 3 free drinks.
Cheap ass! Lol
@D3 agree that's one reason I always have cash.
Thanks for the insights everyone! Carrying cash is not an option since I don't carry a wallet so I guess I will just continue tipping like I'm tipping.
