BCG Fish, what are the differences in responsibilities / expectations between Project Leader and Principal? Current M at ZS, responsible for selling and delivering a certain amount of revenue, helping to lead practice area, etc. Would that map more to Principal or PL at BCG?

Project leads manage an engagement while principals manage the teachers at a school

Principal. At MBB Managers aren’t really involved in selling or leading the practice so to speak (though of course can be involved with proposals, do knowledge work). That doesn’t start until SM. With that in mind BCG will likely level you down to C as the standard move. I’ve not seen a lateral to the same position personally but I’m sure it’s happened before for in-demand expertise. Definitely not going to offer you SM. YMMV

Damn - responses are pretty petty. Good luck, OP!

like

Not a PL or Principal, but it sounds like your responsibilities map more to Principal. That said, I doubt they'd bring you in above PL (possible they'd actually want to level you down to C)

like

Going back to C wouldn't make sense for an M from ZS - the difference in responsibilities is gigantic.

Lol ZS did you get the recruiting LinkedIn message with a tier 1 company?? Haha

By the way I got the same message by the intern of the recruiting company, hence the lol. But if you are seriously recruiting I have heard from friends that on paper the principal responsibility is closer to our manager role but remember the projects BCG sells is different from ZS so coming in as principal you will have expectations of selling work that may or may not be what you have experience in. Ultimately, it will probably come down to how well you convince the team that you are matched for BCG level principal responsibilities. Comp wise even project leader comp will beat ZS 1-2 year managers

Didn't sound like hard sell pharma, quite a bit of branded video content. I searched on FB, sounded mostly negative culturally (employee fired during Pride month, political, creatives better watch their backs, climate denier) with a few who love it. Figured I'll ask if anything's changed, if it's even worth ... considering.

I have offers with Bain (Sr mgr) and BCG (PL2), and will be focusing on their PE practices. I know Bain is the leader in PE work, but having trouble deciding which offer to go for. Biggest factors for me to consider is career progression (in consulting), culture, optionality in the types of deals/projects. My conflict right now is I had better interactions with BCG interviewers and initially leaned that way, but the infrastructure & market presence of Bain in this space is strong. Thoughts?
