I bet you a bajillion dollars OP is a white man. Of course you're tired of diversity... You don't need it because you are 70% of consultants
No. Diversity or thought and opinion is what allows you to formulate the best solution for your clients and colleagues.
@op I hope I never work w/ a person like you.
If you mean how people tout diversity as an issue but don't do anything (or enough) about it then yes, I'm tired of that.
LOL. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but I'm an African American woman🙃, so I appreciate the mature responses. The reason I ask, specifically on an anonymous forum, is to understand if ppl feel desensitized to the word since it can so heavily used.
That's where I thought you might have been going, OP. Thanks for the clarification! And, though I can't speak for everyone else, I'm a white dude and diversity hasn't lost its meaning for me—I've been on diverse and non-diverse teams, and I know that the discussions in diverse teams are better.
Let me reiterate, I'm tired of people like yourself
Hold on—maybe OP has a non-asshole thought behind this. What do you mean, OP?
I'm an Asian woman and TBH I automatically imagine white people when I read Fishbowl. I like that Deloitte emphasizes diversity, and I was shocked/impressed that the emphasis started immediately during my new hire training 4 years ago. Deloitte is still majority white, but it's nice to see the firm trying. Thanks for sharing your thoughts OP!
Are you, OP? Speak up about it 🙋
No. Diversity is very important to me.
It also tends to invite not just new perspectives but also new ways of analyzing other perspectives. Basically I guess the short version is this: the more types of people on a team, the more opportunities to figure out that you're wrong about something and quickly become right.
They have higher barriers to entry so only the best get the job. Grossly unfair, I know.
@D2 that's great! and I totally agree. it makes everyone a little more comfortable and boost the overall team morale
i find it to be a token effort to not get sued or called out by activist groups rather than an actual commitment to change. My team is surprisingly diverse because my partner actually does care but majority of my floor is monochromatic
My projects are filled with Indian people, myself included. I heartily chuckle when I get diversity related comms because it sure ain't diverse where it counts!
I definitely agree about the early education. Deloitte started holding a diversity conference for freshman/sophomores but I think the first step is to make itself look attainable. I actually didn't think I was good enough and used Deloitte as a practice round during the career fair before moving on. I'm just lucky to end up here and people think I'm drinking the "kool aid" but they don't know how hard the struggle is.
Tired of people like yoi
Yes just like not being the smartest person in the room because you're staggering your growth. Being a white male in a room full of white males will only give you the same perspectives (not counting LGBT; not that's also important)
