Bank of America work - who’s making it?
What’s the going salary for a gcd?
Leave. They're a business, it's not their job to make you successful...they offered you a paycheck and you took it. If you no longer like your deal, leave. Make your own success.
I semi agree with you Leo. I fully agree it is always our own responsibility to advance your career. However, when working for an agency, it is also expected that they sell you to their clients. Or else I would just be freelance, and I would not be wasting my time helping a company that is not fighting for me. I have been taking a lot of projects on my own on the side, and building my reel. But that becomes tough as well when I am working 60 hours for a company that is pigeonholding me in a low position.
I think others are right, I need to leave. And I am in that process.
You might have more luck working for a publisher as they attempt to capture more ad dollars through video.
Many pubs need good video people; environment is a lot different if you’re doing agency stuff now. Given how high video CPMs are, I’d argue $33K a year w/ four year experience is way low. Just my two bits. Good luck!
It might be easier to tell you what to avoid: legacy daily news. I’d start by looking at digital only pubs. If you are agency side, that might help you, too. Good luck
Do you have regular clients? That’s how you move up and not get pigeonholed. Post houses don’t really care about your reel unless you can bill $100k/year cause you have regular clients.
Degree does not equal a higher paycheck. It's all about your reel and awards.
I agree with that, but $33,000 works out to be less than a McDonalds employee makes. And what about them pidgeonholding me in a low position?
Love that advice. Thank you! I have actually been in the process of looking.
It’s your responsibility not the company’s to advance your career. Take a look at other working editor’s reels and compare it to your own to see what you need to work on. Start putting yourself out there and take on as many projects as you can.
OP, do you by chance shoot as well as edit?
I have very limited experience shooting
Thank you so much for the response, George! I never really. Thought to go that route. I might start to look into that option. Any examples of publishers you know who look for video content creators?
Thanks again!
