^20 % bump in comp for 50 % bump in work tho

like

Given the level of stress, I wouldn't say "severely". I get paid more hourly than friends at MBB that make $140k+. Make enough to live comfortably, no travel, plenty of time to spend time on things more interesting than work.

like

Man. The base seems low for an M but it's tough to beat WL balance and low stress. MBA or no?

like

I felt the same way! Had a great work life balance and stress free job. I got so comfortable but made the hard decision to leave for better pay and a more challenging role. Time will tell if this was a good move. Are you in federal and what company do you work for?

like

OP, I'd enjoy while it lasts. Unless you're living in San Jose, $110k is more than enough. What would do with an extra ~$13k (assuming 20% bump, after taxes)?

like

If the consulting kings of A.T. Kearney think you're underpaid despite having a good salary with an excellent W/L balance, then it must be true!!

like

My case: I jumped from 110k to 140k after I switched, that's nearly 30% bump. My life style outside of work hasn't changed much, and certainly not like I can suddenly afford to change my Honda to Tessa. But my workload has increased significantly and I have much less time outside of work now... The point I want to make is, if you are comfortable and happy now, salary bump alone shouldn't be the deciding factor, unless it is significant enough that you can really benefit from it. I don't regret the switch, since I was actually getting bored with the easy job before and now I feel more fulfilled from my job (even though at time the stress can be too much...) Or I should have tried joining the kings like ATK1 here and make 100 times more, so that I can tell all other unworthy individuals they are "severely underpaid" by making only 6 figures per year.

like

Thanks guys. No it's not federal. I'm in a consulting firm. The base seems pretty low compared to market standards. No MBA. We do get about 20% year end bonus. Been approached by a number of firms over the last few years but I've been hesitant to trade in the WL balance for more $. I also have almost full autonomy on my projects here and determine travel needs as I see fit, I travel maybe a couple days a month mainly for key meetings. That flexibility/autonomy seems hard to get anywhere else. But starting to think I should give it a shot.

like

K1 - about 3 months ago, went from 0 travel to M-T travel. Went from 40 hour week to 60 hour work weeks. Got a 20% bump

like

I think that was meant as sarcasm

like

C1 how long ago? And how much of a bump and increase in workload?

like

C1 - 20% seems like a good bump. How does the change feel so far?

like

Are you with kpmg

like

Where you work op that sounds like a good deal

like

What?!? Where do you work? You're severely underpaid

like

At entry level? What.

like

Complacency vs being content. Big difference, only you can figure it out.

like

K3 - we are not the highest paid firm. I wish... And OP - true as manager you would get more elsewhere. You'll go up 40-60%+ at top firms. Up to you if the money makes it worth

like

Tell your company that you are getting approached by firms prepared to offer you 140+. Tell your leadership you are happy where you are at , and don't want to leave but were wondering if they would do something to bring your base closer to market average . It's a waste of time and effort to go through an interview process at another company just to see if your company will counter. If you want the money , and that's the only reason they want to make things right for you , best to move on.

like

^ what's the point in telling your company then? Just move on?

Interviewed by a FP&A director for a SFA position and they asked me my salary expectations. I couldn’t dodge the question so i gave a range between 110-115k (where i’m currently at as S3 in big4 advisory). They said highest base for the position is around 105k and total comp (base+annual bonus) would likely be 110k. The role focuses on top-line P&L and is pure FP&A (no JE/acctg responsibilities) and good WLB, so i think it’s a good opportunity. If they do give an offer, should i still negotiate?

I vibed with the job really well despite feeling dominated by the leadership style of most of my coworkers as I’m touchy/feely rather than technical. Looking back I think about 3 years ago everything changed and now I’m withdrawn, crabby, cynical AF, have no energy and am hard. Any tips on how to get around this? Or is this just the typical trend? I realized all this and it’s super upsetting to me.
