Dear young creatives: no agency is going to give you a raise before you’ve finished at least a full year with them.
If you’re not happy with the salary and title you have now, then you should have negotiated for more 6 months ago.
At least you’re not the person who posted on fishbowl if they could ask for a raise after just 3 months. Jesus.
Copy, asking so soon seems naive. Unless you did something huge - did you bring in multiple new clients? Single-handedly increase revenue dramatically? Sounds like u were doing your job effectively & it’s why they hired you. Congrats & keep at it.
I would instead take this opportunity to make sure you are “managing up” - make sure your boss’s boss or whoever will decide if you deserve a raise is looped into your contributions. Can you schedule a quick 1 on 1 with this person? Tell them you are stoked with how things are going and ask for any advice. You can start setting yourself up to get the raise at the 1 year mark.
Way too soon. While your “accomplishments” are impressive, they really are the “expectations” of the job. Give it a year. Once you can transfer the basics of your job into some hardware on the awards circuit, you’ll have some leverage.
6 months in seems a little soon TBH.
Yes its too soon. Youre doing a good job, but youre doing your job. Saying “Ive gone viral, you shoukd give me more money” will for sure sound opportunistic (because nothing has changed in your life, you dont NEED or deserve more money in the traditional sense). Wait for your one yr review, and be a decent person. But congrats on stuff....hopefully theyve taken notice.
Needing money in the traditional sense meaning cost of living has gone up, or you got promoted, or married or kids—in other words a good amount of time has gone by without a raise and youre not just being greedy and mercenary by saying “the project I did last week was really popular—give me money or Ill leave.”
And since when? Since always, hence the word traditional. The idea of making a company pay you extra to stay past three or six months of just doing your job well, that’s what’s relatively new.
I would wait to see the effectiveness of your campaigns. Awards are the usual metric for raises and promotions (a great shame), but if you can get sales figures and the data that could help you make a case.
Produced multiple spots in 6 months .. Sounds great
Ha, I thought the same thing, what are these spots
If 3.5 months is soon enough so is 6. Chase your bliss queeeeen
Yes this is too soon. Most companies won’t even look at your salary until a year
You should also find out what the annual review process at your agency is...that would be the most appropriate time to ask for a raise.
I wouldn't ask for a raise, but I would ask how promotions and raises work at the company. Every company is different and it's a good way to plant that seed without actually asking. and that way you'll know when the next round of raises is and maybe ask them if it's closer to the 1 year mark.
Ask for the raise.
