Just start looking for other jobs and just tell other employers the truth, that you want to do X and they have you doing Y. People switch jobs like this all the time and you shouldn't feel obligated to suffer and power through it due to a misplaced sense of having to pay our dues. If someone interviews you then they by definition don't care about the fact that that you'd be leaving after less than a year of experience.
Does anyone at PWC like their job? Really enjoy their job not just suck it up and do it? I really enjoy my job. It makes me so sad and mad for you guys when I hear these stories over and over. I want to call PWC and tell them they have a serious culture problem
Don't apologize bro/sis. This sounds totally legitimate and there's no reason not to feel the way you do.
Thanks for all the advice guys. Management on my project already knows how i feel, thanks to HR causing a lot of drama when i told them things in confidence. As a result, snapshot feedback is always "great work but can't tell if she wants to be here" - so being honest screwed me over. But i think you guys are right and i need to take some time for myself
PwC op, which group/horizontal are you in? I've heard so many stories about this...
TFW, millenials meet the real world 🌎
@PwC9 we are in the exact same boat. Have an Info Sec operations background, get hired on 10 months ago for cybersecurity strategy; staffed on Internal Audit engagements and get shit for not being familiar with audit methodologies. Did anyone look at my resume?!
Good luck
Have you considered doing whatever you can to shift to a new group? I did and became almost instantly happier.
It's not career suicide to leave. Keep working. Work your ass off. Start looking for new jobs. If someone is willing to interview you, it means they don't care how long you've been there. Happens to everyone. Don't settle
I really want to leave and my friends and family are really concerned about me but how do i explain to other companies that i couldn't last a year?
If you don't like, don't suffer like this. Big world out there, you will find something that you will be a little more comfortable with. Everyone quits, no one firm expects you to last forever. Have you tried speaking to your counselor or practice lead?
Leaving ur first job after a year is completely okay. I did and am doing very well here. I still constantly get recruiters and have gotten 2 offers since from companies that do not care that I left my first job after a year (but obviously have not taken them). Grow a pair and start interviewing.
I'm in the same boat. I have an interview with the first role that actually excites me Wednesday and if that doesn't work out, I'm off to startup land with zero regrets
@PwC OP jeez why does our HR never understand confidentiality. It literally drives me insane. You definitely need to just figure out what area you want to be in and ignore HR and just start network and acting as if you are there. Then eventually t will be more of a "well you should be mapped over there"
Pwc 6, have known where i wanted to be since before day 1. Networking with them just pissed off my coach and RP and project team. I am exhausted and don't want to fight anymore, this has really taken a toll on me. I think this will be my last month at the firm
It is def a problem that so many of us feel this way. I really wonder if this is consulting in general or just PwC. Coach keeps telling me it won't be better anywhere else and to just suck it up, even when i told him specific examples of my health deteriorating. I was so in love with the concept and possibilities of consulting and still halfway am, can't bear the thought of going to industry already
Hang in there OP! Same boat, joined at the same time as you. I've had two industry interviews already and they were huge confidence boosters. While this job sucks and is draining, you're getting killer experience and at the least, your new employer will know you can kick ass under pressure.
I feel you on the mental/physical issues, I cried so much at this job, I've gotten so fat and it feels like it'll never get better. But it will! Everyday say 3 good things about that day, no matter how small.
Also can we seriously take a moment and recognize how many new hires into PwC this year are miserable?! Glad it's not just me getting screwed all the time.
PwC 11 - so glad to hear you've had successful industry interviews! Can i ask how early you started interviewing and if they ever asked you about not being with the firm very long?
PwC 12 here- I'm a cog in my RPs utilization machine. Don't mind what I'm doing but I hate FS- I see no future/exit options for myself in this industry. My RP has consistently blocked opportunities to let me work on other clients despite my repeated request... while being on the bench. Just thought I'd add to the disgruntled PwC party.
I left my first job after 10 months to join consulting.. I immediately regretted it, horrible project, long long hours 7 days a week at client site, 100 plus hours easily (luckily) I was local.. I thought I was going to go insane, my family encouraged me to quit but I didn't want to be unemployed so I switched projects, that were just as bad.. I ended up leaving after 3 years of misery! But I switched firms and it has been an amazing journey.. I'm aligned to exactly what I want to be working in and everyone listens.. If you can't find what you want in industry look to switch firms and be very direct about what service line you want to work in! Things will get better I promise (I cried a lot too) just keep your support system close
About to join pwc from a smaller firm... Y'all are scaring me!
