I would stay put for some more time. The new place isn't giving you a pay bump and your current role at least has a career path where you can cash in big at a future date. No point asking for a few months, companies want ppl to join ASAP (I had to negotiate hard on my joining date); just ask for more money and make them say no so your decision to stay seems easier 😁

Wait for green card and promo. Then leave consulting forever. Build your LI profile and network in preparation so you are best placed to put yourself out there.
Background: Big4 for many years, frustration and stress levels have slowly been building up. Last year, with great resignation, pretty much most of our good technical folks across all ranks left the firm. I stayed put because I had my first long-term stable project with a client I love working with. Client contacts are mostly easy to work with, my mgmt and client mgmt have talked highly of my work, and this has resulted in me being a lock for an early promotion in April to a rank I was hoping would be my jump-off point into industry. Additionally, this year, client has secured the budget to continue building their program that I began with them last year and I'm in at the ground floor and with a great shot at making this my capstone project. Would love to stay and see this through to the end, but also not sure I'll get an interview and an offer quite as easily as I just did. Two choices 1. Trust and take the leap with new offer, but abandon current company midway through this large 2-yr transformation that would get me into director level roles anywhere if I tell anyone how I led it start to finish. 2. Stay at current company, but ask offering company for few more months until I can complete the project and leave on good terms with current employer and client. If I do decide to stall and ask for a few months (a) will the company that's made the offer hold the offer or will they drop me like a hot potato? (b) what convincing reasons can I give to ensure it doesn't lead to them blacklisting me from future consideration?
Agree with manager 1, I would consider putting the time in the hit that next level. I disagree that there is no point asking for more time. I’ve cultivated relationships that turn into hiring over a number of years, and have also held (non-critical, albeit) roles open for similar situations. Weave the narrative that your gained experience is beneficial to the startup. At the end of the day, it really depends on the company culture and the hiring team you’re working with.

What’s the stress work life family angle/detail?
SISA1, stress is obviously there, being in Big4 and all. It's never ending. But I've found my ways to cope and get some semblance of WLB + the dangling carrot of near-certain promotion is what's got me thinking. Had this been 6 months ago when my last promotion case was turned down, I would've taken this offer in a heartbeat even though it's lateral and no improvement in title or salary, since I had enough of getting stonewalled for promotion. An added complication is that my greencard is now very close to front of the line after waiting like 13 years for the backlog to clear. If I switch companies now, there's no telling how far that will set back the process.
