Been here 6 months and keep getting placed on the same client since I started. (Projects are fairly short) Haven't had a chance to network to find other projects. This sucks 😩

Agree with A2. 6 months and you're complaining? Gosh.

This is how staffing works here. If you have a large client, you'll likely never leave it.

@OP stop being a snowflake. You knew this wouldn't be a 9 to 5 job. You send emails. You set up meetings for fridays. If you want something bad enough, you either figure out how to get it, or you leave.

"Haven't had a chance to network"? You make the time.

like

@P1 Who said anything about being in a 9 to 5 job? Never complained about that. The point of my comment is that people are much less responsive after business hours, even in consulting, unless it's clients contacting them. Seems like all you like to do is call people names and give shitty advice. Must suck to work with you.

like

@OP I'm confused why you're unable to schedule emails to go out during normal business hours, set up 15-min calls during the work day here and there, and network on Fridays? That's how you build your network to get on another client.

like

Some would argue it helps with career progression

like

We once had an analyst who scheduled a manager with our SM and said I was told I wouldn't be on a project for longer than 6 months and I've been here a year so I've been doing you a favor and I'm rolling off on Friday. He was so upset he personally called her CC, she didn't make it much longer in the firm

What's the best way to reach out to/network with people in groups that you're interested in but you have no contact with? Cold emails?

like

You don't gain experiences only from going to different clients. What results do you expect to get from short term engagements?

like

You can expect to be at one of those clients for your whole time here unless you really push to get out and network

Try 3.5 years

Scheduled a meeting with our SM**

That's great that some of you are content with being at the same client 👍🏽... not me. Tried to network but not really as easy as you think when you can only do it outside of business hours...

OP, write email in hotel room at night, save as a draft, send during the day

Calls and emails only get you so far. I've already done it. I'm on the client site M-F 8:30am-7pm so I actually don't have Fridays to network...

Senior project manager salary in Chicago?

Background: My client is an industrial manufacturer in the Midwest. They are the finance arm of a company that makes tractors and construction equipment. Most people in the office dress in a collard shirt or polo with blue jeans. Usually they have branded apparel like sweaters or jackets over top. They're technically white collar but with a blue collar clientele. Question: should I wear my Carhartt jacket into their office next week or stick with a peacoat? I'll be in business casual.

Hello, it’s been a very hard couple of months applying for jobs and not hearing back. I interviewed at Facebook (Meta) , McKinsey & Company through referrals. I keep getting beat down because I don’t get callbacks from submitting my resume directly to the company (only 3 so far out of hundreds). My background is in Biotechnology (Master’s) and Biomedical engineering with industry experience in Reg Affairs + Project Management. I want to work on product teams in high growth companies. Any tips?

Help! Applying to a job and one of the only real requirement is to show how I’m “adept at understanding client needs, and designing and implementing creative solutions”. My issue is I work in risk advisory and most of our client engagements don’t actually involve implementation. We usually present our findings and recommendations and move on. What’s the best way I can tackle this? I’m coming up blank and the deadline is soon.

There’s a new director to the firm who just joined the project on a different work stream. He constantly interrupts and talks over the lead client in meetings, and I can tell it’s rubbing her the wrong way. He doesn’t do this with our male client counterparts. I’ve worked with people in the past who did this because they were excited about whatever topic it was and/or felt the need to prove themselves/fluff their own feathers.

The situation: New CPG client is running media on social and digital for the first time and needs to answer to higher ups, “Is it working?” However, there are no historical or category benchmarks and we are in the brand awareness/audience building phase; they understand that we will do retargeting later. They do not want to drive online conversions on their website. We will have some sponsored product advertising (ex. Instacart) later on. What am I missing??

Down because I got some upsetting (work-related) news yesterday. I was up for promotion and did not get it, basically for my actual job that I have been acting in for over a year. I had perfect reviews and perfect on the technical portion of the interview. Apparently they dinged me on something subjective relating to situational competencies. Colleagues—who I trained and mentored—did receive promotion and we will all be working at the same job, just them at higher level and pay. Contd.
