Been in consulting for 1.5 year and realized it isn't for me (or at least Accenture and the type of work we do isn't) obviously I know the exit opps will not be as good/limited. Recommendations 🐠

Accenture may not the the kind of work you want. But at the end of the day , a 30 billion dollar company that serves 75% of the F100 is a pretty damn good name brand to have on your resume. It'll get your food in the door, now being invited inside is entirely dependent on you.

like

Why do you believe your exit ops won't be good? Without seeing your resume, I can already tell that you managed to get through a highly selective process, so are reasonably smart, that you can work hard (1.5 years of consulting is a lot of work), and have reasonable presence and wherewithal to work with clients, switch between different tasks and self-manage.

It's not about selling what you actually do right now. It's about selling yourself for what you can and want to do. Wordsmithing can be powerful.

like

I hate it too OP. Getting out. A1 has some good points. I would worry less about industry than the kind of work you want to do. Explore, explore explore and understand that it takes awhile to find the right "spot".

like

@atk1: aw thank you ☺️ I just feel like the work we do at Accenture is a bit harder for me to sell in roles that I am interested in. Not impossible, just harder

like

Curious..why don't you like it?

like

What service line are you aligned to? Just curious

like

Yikes I butchered that identify line lol.

like

@ibm1: yes kind of too long to explain on here! But ironically I have done some projects in interactive and it's pretty much the same as mc/tc

like

1) Google. Research firms you'd like to work for. Identify up the role that you'd be like to work as. Short list recruitment timelines , reach out to HR if you can and get a feel for what you can do to be a better candidate. 2) Tailor your resume towards what you'd like to go into. Finance ? Focus on quant work. Statistics. KPI improvements. $$$$. Project Management ? Leadership qualities. Etc. There's no correct answer to this. It will be a lengthy-ish process, but if you do your due diligence, you can honestly move into whatever general industry you'd like.

@a1: hahaha it's fine thank you for your input!

@ibm1: I am aligned to our consulting practice, meaning mc/tc

@OP I mean I figured that.. but MC has service lines under it right? Like, you can be an MC in ACN interactive, no?

I've been in consulting 1.5 years as well and I'm actively looking. It is definitely a process, it's tough finding roles who want individuals with 1, 2, or 3 years on consulting experiences but they're out there. I recommend writing down the companies you want to work for, research potential roles and wordsmith your resume/cover letter to focus on your strengths and role needs (as everyone has said). Also reach out to your network, family, family friends to see if they have any friends who are looking for people.

Tell your cc roll off get on good projects start looking

• My market is HIGHLY niche, and I’ve already run out of leads, so there’s really no point in adding addl bodies to my role.

• I took a promotion into this role last Dec, and will end up making ~30k less this yr because I started over with no clients (but wya higher base), so I’m starting to look at other companies.

Anything you recommend to ease the transition? If it makes a difference for your advice, staff is on the older side. They had buy in on the software and plenty of demos and time to check it out and test it etc. But implementing it is making them anxious
