Been in house for about a year. I just found out that a new hire who has 1-2 less years of experience than me (but will have the same role/title as me) received a compensation package significantly higher than me, mostly due to the market dynamics with law firm associates’ compensation being ratcheted up the past year. Can I ask for an equitable raise mid year? And if so, how? I got rave reviews but an immaterial pay bump (3%) at year end in December.

You can ask, but what are you going to do if you don’t receive? Plan it out before.

I think you're reading into it too much to think your manager isn't showing you good faith. Doing market adjustments isn't always easy as it's based on budgets and HR input at most companies. It's not a simple request.

Have a frank conversation with your manager if you're open to it. Then you'll see if s/he can do anything or not.

I have no experience in this and am probably naive, but if you have a good relationship with your manager, would you be comfortable breaching the subject as: you are concerned about the disparity of compensation, and how does this company account for those types of inequities? Coming at it in the form of a question and dialogue seems reasonable to me. Might not have much impact, but better than wondering what if, and letting whatever resentment you hold fester.

Really like this idea. We have a good relationship and this goes to the heart of my concerns (whether as an organization they think it’s important to fairly compensate). If she says they will be fair, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until the end of the year (when raises are considered by the comp committee).

Was in similar position - raised it in a somewhat coy manner with manager but also got immaterial raise. So I went out, did a job search, and moved to a better gig for materially more $. When I gave notice, folks expressed desire to bump up my comp but was too late for me at that point.

A little under a year and a half and also had glowing reviews. But they were paying new hire with slightly less experience about 25% more than me

It’s a corporation. If they are going to address salary compression they will do it across the board, not for one off requests. IME anyway.

What is your comp and total YOE?

From my experience, any meaningful inhouse raises besides from promotions has been when I've given notice that I am leaving to another company. They'll generally ask what they can do to keep you. You can then give your requests. I find that they get pretty darn close to (or match) the competing offer you have. When I have stayed, it has never come back to bite me in the rear. I still got promotions. I did it recently with my current employer where I have been at for <1yr. They were willing to match but I decided to leave because the other place offered full remote.

Sorry I have no insight, but wanted to follow as I'm in a similar boat!

How did you find out? I want to do the same with my colleague with the same title/responsibilities to compare comp, but I don't know how to broach the subject. Did you just ask the new hire? How did you do it?

Definitely. I just befriended her and asked.

People lie. Unless you saw a stub or something credible, i'd take it with a grain of salt before getting upset.

For internal practice roles that are not client facing, is there a rule of thumb I can use to gauge compensation progression over time/level? I understand that they will not be as high as client-facing roles. For example, would a SM or Director for internal strategy be 20% lower (I'm making this figure up)?

How would you go about finding a remote AE role with a 100k base?

I have about 7-8 years of sales experience and have consistently out performed my OTE. I absolutely love my current role but I feel like I have out grown the company as there isn't a ton of opportunity to make more than I am currently making.

I opened up my LinkedIn to recruiters but all the offers are 60-70k base and 120-140k OTE. I am shooting for MINIMUM 80k base but ideally 100k or more.

What would you do?

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

I just received an offer for a job I am very excited about. Base is within reasonable range and I will likely go back and ask for a bit more there. The company also offers a yearly cash bonus based on the performance of the company as well as a stock grant. Those are determined based on percentages of base salary.
