I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I am an associate at a small firm and was licensed last fall. I clerked at this firm through law school, so I knew most of the partners before starting as an attorney full time, except some of the new ones we have acquired since. I have several cases that I am the only responsible attorney on and quite frankly, feel like I have no clue what I’m doing half the time. I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?

Recently obtained my aPHR and I’m considering next steps in advancing my career. I am eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP presently and will not be able to sit for a PHR until 09/2023. Any pros/cons with either certification? Should I wait to sit for PHR or go for SHRM-CP now?

Following up from my last post about remote being possible for our profession. Do we as HR professionals have concerns that going remote will also increase outsourcing of the remote roles to more call center environments/PEO/etc.

I’ve noticed everyone wants remote don’t get me wrong sounds good, I’m more Hybrid, but the reality seems a bit uncertain as we know the use of AI is growing and remote work may mean outsourcing in the future.

I was offered a promotion but due to internal policies the max comp they could offer was way under market value. I countered and was denied. I took time to think about it, being disappointed I applied for other jobs. Monday came and I decided to accept the offer. A week before starting my new position I got a call for one of the jobs I applied for. I am now going through to the last round of interviews the same week I start my new position. Would it be bad practice to accept another offer now?
