Been in this job 8 months and have primarily experienced boredom and zero necessity for intellectual engagement. What am I doing wrong? How do I get a challenging project? I'm getting good reviews.

Welcome to consulting. It's all PMO work most of the time which leads to boredom.

I'm in a similar position. Been contributing to areas outside of project work to stay engaged (recruiting.. proposals.. market research for managers who are engaged in more interesting things)

like

So the issue is we should get out of big 4

If you want great work, you have to get in with the people selling the great work. Once you get on something good, take responsibility for generating your own work out of that.

MBB is where the fun stuff is. Also agree, the key is to not wait for staffing to come knocking

like

Which firm are you with? If you are getting good reviews, have someone you worked with before (the more senior the better) put you in touch with other partners or principals that work in areas you have interest in. At BCG, most of the really good stuff gets staffed before it hits the internal staffing sheets, so you just need to be a little proactive if you are unhappy.

3 years in and still feel bored and not intellectually challenged

I sometimes feel sad that in the age of startups we are doing old school consulting. Anyways it is better said than done. I'm still planning my exit strategy.

like

I got lucky with my first project and have done all really cool stuff since (20 months in). But I have never been staffed from staffing sheet/manager after the first case.

like

Maybe you're just that good that nothing is a real challenge! How bow dat?

Pwc2 - haha, I wish. I'm just wondering if there's a positive way to communicate this to managers, or ways other people addressed this?

I'm wondering if MBB have more interesting projects as I assume they do more strategy work

^ of course they do

Yes

Right there with ya OP

I have been hired for development in new company but here also they put me in support and promised me the development project... If they don't provide development project, what are the options I have? If want to leave, how much duration I need to work here? Will it affect in future if I leave the company as I will be changing two companies within a year? Please advise me... Thanks...

Art director presents idea we were both tasked to do. The entire concept is mostly my idea, and has a key element that she did not like and almost refused to add. I basically pushed her to add it. It’s that part that the client actually loved, and when the meeting ended, everyone thanked her and congratulated her, and she said “thanks”without giving me a mention. Even our cd and account folks. Should i let it go?

Interviewing with founders of a small shop. I want to ask them in a professional, sincere way if they had to let go of people during the pandemic. Is that bad to ask? “What steps did you take in order to protect job security during client loses?” Is possible. Bc I know some places were able to keep ppl.

Me: This project has a complex technical facet that will need a week or two of PT attention from one of the experienced seniors who has worked on this client before, because it has a lot of business context Partner: Here's a fresh staff with absolutely no background on that specific technical topic and also very little functioning business sense. You get him FT tho! So same same.

I fired my largest client today. 🙀 Sometimes it just isn't a good fit. It has to be a fit for not only my client but also for my agency. We're selective about the work we take on because relationships do matter, and strong relationships = better results. Today was liberating. What a breath of fresh air. We are accepting new clients for everything marketing related including graphic design, website design and development, SEO, digital campaigns, product photography, and video production.

Joining New Firm. I met a group of consultants on a client that we both shared. Had a good relationship with the consultants and they invited me to join their team. Are there any implications that would preclude me from joining? I’m currently in a PA firm and they were engaged on loan staff model.

Alright, I confess: I’m just starting my second year as a manager (first in a new office I transferred to last November), and I’m feeling more and more exposed to the point where I know that others (staff, seniors, partners, and the client) know that I don’t know shit. Feels like I’m caught off guard in conversations on a routine basis. How has everyone else been able to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable when it comes to dealing with new accounting issues for a new client?

I’ve been struggling with the future of my career lately. I’ve been a business analyst in fed software dev projects for 5 years now. The natural progression would be to become a PM in a similar project. I’ve fortunately been given many opportunities to try out some “lead” roles at my current firm. I’ve tried it...and I just don’t like it. Doesn’t fit my personality or give me any satisfaction. I like working more on the “ground” and learning from developers. But I know I could be making cont.
