Been on Fishbowl for a month now and reading all salaries and stuff and makes me wonder if i have been slack or landscape has really changed.
I am 42, having been in legacy tech for 18+ years - chose to remain a technical person by choice. Now getting salary of 22L p.a. my starting salary back in 2003-04 was 1.4L p.a.
Did jump a couple of companies. Also do not want to leave my home state, so stayed in Chennai my entire career. Continued in reply
I don't see people taking someone with no related exp.in the new tech stack. The opportunities in my tech stack are also less and definitely not much near my hometown.
So i am kind of satisfied. But my eyes go wide on reading that companies even the WITCH ones are paying more for 6-7 yrs of experience and do not pay for someone with 18 years. I guess that's the problem of staying a tech person at India beyond 15+ years
I don't think they will have any position for my tech stack. It's a legacy rare skill technology.
Sir, salaries on the tech side are still better than operations 🙂.... It's the same on ops side as well... I started my career as reference data analyst..there are quite less openings in market for the same... Whenever I try to switch domain it's rejected or salary offered is less than my current one....not sure how people sack huge salaries... But yeah working 15+ years of exp in tech is quite a good one... Even I am looking for certifications which might help me enhance my skill set but it again comes to the same point..that no1 would hire a non tech experienced person in a tech side just with some certifications 🙂

So salary increment was again low, not sure - if at 18+ should look to learn a new skill and will the market even consider me. A bit depressed, so thinking how to motivate self.
