I second applying for jobs as a backup. You've been on the bench for 3 months. If you get ready to apply by EOM, you would probably be around the 6 months mark to make the decision. If I was still on the bench then, I'd have a blunt conversation with leadership (since you have offer in hand), but most likely I'd leave.
As I walk around the office I can’t help but to feel like I’ll be let go. I’ve been let go before and maybe I’m being paranoid, but some directors seem to be looking at me with sad eyes.
I’m in a similar boat. Been on the bench since mid-September after great reviews on my first project. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of work for my expertise at this firm. Brushed up resume and have been interviewing. Best to do the same just in case? Always good to have a back-up plan or some irons in the fire if the worst case scenario transpires.
Network your ass off internally if you haven't already done so.
What reasons have they given you for not being staffed? Have you received any feedback?
The role i was supposed to be staffed on seems to be mismanaged poorly. I’m technically staffed but the work hasn’t begun yet. It seems like the firm is dropping the ball hard on it. Doesn’t seem sustainable
I’ve always been in the position that you should keep the connections up-to-date because you never know when you will need them. Some question the need to maintain that and why you would ever look to leave, but one thing being an IE and a consultant has taught me is that we are just a number. If tomorrow, some c-suite level employee decided he needed to cut numbers, we would be made redundant like we never existed. Remember, do what’s best for you, not what’s best for your company but always try to minimize the bridge burning. It’s a fine tuning thing that many of us blow up.
