Been practicing general insurance defense lit for two years. Interested in becoming a coverage attorney. What’s the best way to transition? Substantial pay cut?

Don’t do it. Same miserable hours and pay.

I’d disagree. Coverage work is very challenging and detailed and has a steep learning curve but it is in demand and pays much better. My rates as an experienced coverage attorney are significantly higher then someone doing insurance defense work.

I did gen. lit. before making the jump to coverage. That was really never an issue that was brought up during the interview process. And in the little was discussed it was actually a positive because I had significant deposition and trial experience.

I ordered a Tesla model 3 SR in April and I am able to take delivery this weekend, however I’m now unsure of whether it’s the right move financially. I have a lease on a 2020 BMW X3 that will end next month and was wondering if I should just buy that out and drive it for a few years. If it makes a difference I’m in SoCal so gas is $$$, but no EV charging in my apartment.

Tesla: $830/month + charging and insurance
BMW: $600/m + $150 gas + maint/insurance

Any thoughts? Is the Tesla worth it?

For anyone debating whether to go in house, I recently went in house, and the mental health benefit of not having to worry about billable hours is completely worth the switch. It's great not having to worry about catching up on hours when I'm out for a doctor's appointment, vacation, etc. It's more of a mental health relief than I guessed it would be.

Not a student… yet, but hope you can help. I’m in healthcare administration (executive assistant) and want a career change, moving into nursing. It looks like LVN is the fastest path (12-month program at my local community college), then continue education for a BSN while working as an LVN. I’m a single parent of a young child so I’m trying to minimize the time I won’t be able to work full time due to school and also ensure I’ll have a livable wage upon completion. Thinking about getting a 2.5k sqft home in the city (LCOL/MCOL). Mortgage (w/insurance, taxes and all that) would be $3.2k/mo at a 6.88% rate. We are currently at $150k TC DINK. Is this realistic?

Have you all ever had a mental roadblock making you less productive? If so how did you handle it? I've been pretty concerned about my health lately as I've been in and out of the hospital the last month. So far my tests have come back as normal and doctors are pointing it towards anxiety which is something that I'm not used to having. At times it feels like black in tech means I have to appear as a superstar so I'm not labelled by my peers as a slacker. Could be just me but it feels that way.

Hello Ladies! I am really excited that I found this app and this group because it is giving me some sort of hope to remain with in the Field. I recently got a promotion in my company to work as a Junior CSR in Commercial Lines but I also got a job offer elsewhere to work in the entertainment insurance industry as an Associate. I got the RIBO license in January. The job offer pays more than my promotion but once I told my manager I had this offer she said they are willing to match that offer, however I wouldn’t see an increase in salary for a while. I don’t know what to do because both jobs sound really interesting. Any advice?

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?
