Can you take some time off? 2-4 weeks to recalibrate may do you some good and buy you fresh perspective on what's most important in your life. Good luck and hang in there!
Try taking at least a week off. You have to be committed to completely disconnecting from work though. Yes, you'll probably have a stack of emails and work when you get back, but you'd be amazed at how many of those emails can be thrown into the trash after giving them a quick skim.
Sorry to hear you're feeling this way. Is the burnout due to too much work or the condition of your work? All of the suggestions above are good, but they can only do so much. Taking time off (especially for an extended amount of time) is not always a realistic option. And what happens when you're back?
If too much work is the reason, then address it at the root and ask to have some of that load removed from your plate. It benefits no one that you're feeling burnt out. I don't know the full story but hopefully this helps.
Exercise and fresh air. Also watching the dumbest movie possible. But yeah a vacation is a good start.
In addition to all the above: i like to try to do something legitimately meaningful - volunteering, calling family members to catch up, etc. etc. - that puts round 18 of banner revisions in some kind of perspective.
Spend time and energy on stuff that isn't advertising. Read some books. Watch movies. Go outside. Basically I dump a bunch of inspiration into my head.
New job if it's the place you're working that's the issue. Try freelance?
I work for a startup agency. The work is super interesting, rewarding and diverse. But it's sorta like building the bike while you ride it. Reading all your responses really made me realize how skewed my work life balance is right now. So thank you all, gonna have to work on that. Also lol #CBT
I'm not trying to be a dick but how do you find time to do all this decompressing to avoid burnout when you are getting home at 8-9pm almost every night?? When does this therapy/relaxing/meditating/volunteering/playing video games happen?!?!? Not on the weekend because that's when you have your Life-Job (laundry, errands, groceries, cleaning, paying bills, etc). And if you're single, F-O-R-G-E-T I-T. May as well start a cat farm and call it day. I'm all open for suggestions, but outside of staging an industry-wide Walk-Out where we all zero-fuck-it and leave the building until management figures out a way to put us over profit, I'm don't think there will ever be a solution.
If you can't take a few weeks off try starting a passion project, learn something completely out of your wheelhouse - pottery, paint, etc. something that uses a different part of your brain.
Same boat, totally burnt out. The stress in this industry blows my mind. We're not saving lives yet the work environment acts as though we are. I'm worried I might actually have a breakdown. I'm trying acupuncture...therapy...days off...anything I can do, but really I think I just need to get out of this industry.
Try to work in a different location to change up the day to day
Also volunteering helps a lot. A foodbank, community garden or after school program. Always helps me.
time off. CBT and sounds really basic but get a hobby that you love and rebalances your priorities.. worked for me ... back in the game stronger than i was before it
Can we please stop using "wheelhouse"?
I'm in the same boat ....starting to hate my job
You need to take a step back. Try to have less workload. Take a vaca and only when ur feeling better, try to figure out why you ended up in this situation. Time management? Better work distribution within the team? Need to delegate? The thing is vacation will help but a few months back in u might end up in the same place like now. Hope this helps. Hang in there and talk to someone within your team asap. 💆
I've struggled with this same feeling for way too long. @Leo3 I agree; the entire industry is insane.
Needless to say I JUST fucking got home from work and I'm FIRED UP AF. 🔥☠️🔪
